mark feldman's summer trip - stop #6 st. louis, mo - june 4-6 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
i spent one weekend in st louis, visiting my high school friend kirill. we were tourists on saturday, visiting the gateway arch and busch stadium. the arch is simply an unbelievable creation - i hadn't realized how tall it was (675 feet) and that you could actually go inside (not for claustrophobes!) busch stadium is a cookie cutter from the '60s, but not a hideous one for that genre of stadiums. the fans wear lots of red and are quite enthusiastic without being obnoxious. the cardinals won 9-5 thanks to the high-powered offense of albert pujols (above) and scott rolen. and there was much rejoicing (yaaaaay).
sunday i set out on my own for cahokia monument, the oldest site (~700-1400 AD) of a prehistoric city in the usa! the site consisted of dozens of mounds and remnants of a giant stockade wall. it is difficult to portray its appeal from pictures. (virtual mounds are only so exciting). but trust me, it was cool.
