Pinnacles was declared a national monument by Teddy Roosevelt around the same time he bequeathed similar honors on the Grand Canyon. This is a real gem of a park! What you see here is just one cluster of many peaks that tower hundreds of feet high. You can hike up in and around them all day. The park is literally one half of a volcano that got split down the middle by a fault and moved 120 miles northwest of the rest of the mountain...which remains down by Los Angeles!
