On one solo trek up to Buck Pass, I made my way up past the marmots to 6,500' Liberty Cap. The view was all mountains for 360 degrees. Buck Mountain is dead ahead. Off the page, to the right would be Glacier Peak. Off to the left and over a ridge would be Seven Fingered Jack. I had a dusty hike in to the campsite and one entire sunny day exploring Liberty Cap and the surrounding area. And then the clouds rolled in. It snowed 100 feet above my tent...which, of course, meant I got rained on. Even so, it was a great hike out. I knew when the rain started and stopped, so it was amazing to read the tracks in the trail on my way out the next morning. What a thoroughfare! Everything from elk to cougars had used that route between 1:00 and 6:00 AM! |
