Intellectual Property: Another Paper Asset
People love intllectual property. Why? Because you don't have to do anything (most of the time). Intellectual property includes things like songs, books, patents, etc,.You can either do two things to obtain intellectuall property. You can either make it up, or buy somebody elses. The thing about intellectual property, mostly patents, is that it is difficult to protect. People can steal your ideas, and intellectual property can take a long time to create. In the case of a patent it take up to three years to process (in the U.S.) Not only that but it's expensive. In Canada, only new innovations can be recongnized as a patent. And it can only be held for 17 years. In the U.S. the story is a little different. I once saw a patent for a donut pattern. Half glaze and half chocolate. Is that really an invention? Anyways, moving on to intellectual property such as books and songs, you have to be one creative "cat" to do it. It is not as difficult as a patent, but it sure can be difficult getting a publisher, or a record deal, and then making it to the top. Some people that have gotten rich of intellectual property include J.K. Rowling. She wrote the Harry Potter series. I think it would be a might difficult to go head on with that! Michael Jackson is also intellectual property rich. He owns his own songs, and many others. Some include Beatle's songs. So everytime somebody plays the songs own the radio that he owns, he makes money. And people have to pay him a royalty as well for reproducing any of the songs. He has the copyrights to the song. Literally meaning the right to copy. I have to say, if you don't already have a bunch of money, and a wad of creativity, it's best you not keep your hopes up high. But don't take my word for it, if believe you can do it I don't doubt you, go for the gusto!
