YES, I REMEMBER YOU

Yes, I remember you,
my brothers and sisters all,
wherever you may sleep,
whether in Flanders field,
where fabled poppies grow,
or on some land , or some far off sea,
without a cross to mark your spot,
I remember what you did for me.

And sleep, gentle warriors,
you, who paid the dearest price,
to keep your family safe,
you made the supreme sacrifice.
And you died not for glory,
but to protect what you left behind,
all that mattered so much to you,
all you loved most, in heart and mind.

So sleep gently, warriors,
you went to war, but  went out of love,
and when I remember you,
it is that love I first  think of.
And even without a name or a face,
I remember whom I'm indebted to,
and I pray that I'm numbered in millions,
those who will always remember you.
