More Than That Chapter 1: Trent |
|||||||
“Shit!” Arlet yelled as she entered her kitchen from the garage. “Why? Why the fuck me?” She continued yelling. She threw her bag carelessly to the side and sat down on the island table and put her head in her hands. Her best friend Sarah, who she was living with, heard her loud entrance from the living room. She got up and walked into the kitchen to see her best friend with her face in her hands and crying. “Dude, what’s wrong?” Sarah asked concerned. “He fucking broke up with me!” Arlet responded looking up. Her face was tear-stained and her eyes were red and puffy. “Trent?” Sarah asked stunned. “Yes Trent.” “Oh my God. What happened? You guys were suppose to get married in less than 2 weeks.” “I know! I have waiting for that day for years and when it finally happens, the guy tells me he doesn’t want to be with me anymore!” Sarah, still stunned with the news sat down next to Arlet. “Did he tell you why he didn’t want to be with you?” Arlet nodded. “Then tell me what happened.” Arlet sniffed a couple times looking down at the table before responding. “Well, he called me up today and asked if I could meet him for lunch. He said he wanted to talk to me about something that has to do with the wedding. So I said yes, of course and left to go meet him at Cafe Jordano’s. When I got there, I saw him waiting outside. I parked my car and walked up to him and everything seemed fine and dandy when we walked in.” She stopped to look at Sarah. “Keep going.” She told her. “Well, after we finished ordering, I asked him about what he wanted to talk to me about. He took in a deep breath, took my hands and said, ‘I don’t think we should be together anymore.’ I just stared at him blankly. I asked him why and...” Arlet stopped. The tears in her eyes started to come back. She didn’t want to remember that painful moment. Her heart was broken and it hurt inside. The pain was so intense she couldn’t stop crying. Sarah rubbed her back reassuringly and sister-like. “Ssh. It’s going to be okay. Just let it out.” “He’s having an affair.” Arlet said, barely over a whisper. “What?” Sarah asked taken aback. Her eyes were wide with shock and anger. “With Lena.” “Fulkerson?” Sarah said with her voice raising. Arlet nodded. “Oh that bitch! I swear to God if I ever see them, I’m going to fucking kick their ass!” “Don’t.” Arlet said quietly. “Why? How long have they been having the affair?” “Soon after me and Trent got in engaged.” “A year! They’ve been sleeping with each other for a year! That’s it! Where are my keys? I’m going to show them not to hurt my best friend ever again. Especially Fulkerson!” “No Sarah. Don’t. Just don’t. Don’t cause any trouble.” Arlet pleaded quietly. She looked up to look at her best friend. Sarah looked her in the eyes. The playful, happy, mischievous dancing brown eyes that Sarah was usually greeted by were not there anymore. They were replaced with sadness, confusion and heartache filled, bloodshot, puffy ones. Sarah’s heart broke at the scene. Her best friend was hurting inside and she didn’t know how to heal it. She let out a sigh. “Okay. I won’t kick their ass...for now. If I see them on the street, I will have to lay some smack down though.” Sarah said, trying to lighten up the mood. Arlet smiled slightly as she wiped away some tears. “Thanks Sarah. You’re the best.” Sarah smiled. “Hey, you like the Backstreet Boys, right?” “Yeah.” Arlet responded slowly. “Why?” “Well, my step-sister had tickets for their concert tonight and she was going to take a friend but something came up, I guess. She asked if I wanted them. Only God knows why she thought I wanted them but I took them anyways. So how ‘bout it, eh? Wanna go see five sorta-cute guys on stage doing pelvic thrusts and making pre-pubescent girls shriek?” Arlet laughed lightly. “Yeah. I’d like that. And they’re not ‘sorta-cute’, they are cute.” “Okay then. Go upstairs and freshen up. You know, take a long, hot shower and just forget about Trent. Tell yourself that you are going to see 5 guys that are probably hotter than him.” “Okay. Thanks Sarah.” Arlet said sincerely. She got up and gave Sarah a big hug. Arlet let go of her and ran upstairs to take a shower, not knowing what was going to happen that night... |
