The Best Holiday Break Ever
by: Arlet Schmidt
CHAPTER FOUR
Five shadowy figures stood in front of Arlet. They were unmistakably freezing for their shivering outlines were noticeable.

"Our c-car b-broke d-down. M-May we c-come in?" Asked one of the people standing outside.

That voice sounds oddly familiar, Arlet thought to herself. "Yes of course. Let’s get you guys out of that crappy weather." She told them.

"Th-th-th-thank you so much." Said another voice.

Arlet opened the door all the way for them to walk through. She saw that they were completely covered in snow, head to toe. They have obviously been outside in the snow for awhile.

The Boys ran into the house gratefully. They shook off the snow and looked around the huge, warm house. They heard their own voices coming from the room behind them. They smiled to themselves knowing that their host must be a fan. The 5 of them turned to face Arlet when they heard her close the door.

Arlet turned around and smiled to her unexpected guests. When her eyes landed on the 5 figures in front of her, her whole body entirely froze. Her eyes widened and she tried to say something but she just ended up opening and closing her mouth like an idiot.

The guys smiled at her and laughed. They just stood there, waiting for their lifesaver to say something. She didn’t say anything. The only thing that came from her was some sort of gulping noise. They laughed at her again.

"Oh. My. God." Arlet said very slowly.

"She speaks." Nick said, with his world famous smile.

Arlet blushed 10 shades of red. "Oh, I’m sorry." She said, utterly embarrassed.

"That’s OK. We understand. Hi, I’m Nick, as you probably already know." He stuck out his hand.

"Hi, it’s nice to meet you. My name is Arlet." She said, slowly taking his hand into hers. When he shook it, on the outside, Arlet was pretty calm but, on the inside, she was screaming her lungs out.

"Arlet? That’s a beautiful name."

She blushed again. The other guys introduced themselves too, each time, Arlet could not believe any of it was happening.

"Let’s go into the living room." Arlet suggested. They nodded and turned to walk in the room behind them. She followed behind, pinching herself to make sure it wasn’t a dream. Nick stole a glance at her and laughed silently to himself.

Arlet sat down on the couch and moved her blanket to give them room. Nick sat on her right side, Brian on the left and the others sat on the couch that connected to it at a 90 degree angle. Nick gave her his popular smile once again and of course, Arlet blushed.

"Wow, you got a huge house! Do you live here all by herself?" Howie asked.

"No actually. I share this house with 4 of my best friends." Arlet answered. She started to cough really hard. The guys watched her, concerned and frightened that she might throw up or choke. When she stopped, she cleared her throat. When she noticed the concerned faces of the Boys, she looked down at her hands, bashfully.

"Are you OK?" Nick asked.

"Yeah. I’m just sick. I have a horrible cold. I always seem to get sick around this time of year." She answered without looking at him. Nick Carter actually cares about me, Arlet said to herself.

"Well, your friends don’t seem to care too much if they left you home alone sick." Kevin said. "They should be here taking care of you."

"Oh no. Actually, I told them to go. I told them that if they didn’t go, I would kick their ass. No, I’m just kidding. But I would of said that if they kept bugging me by asking if I were sure I wanted to them to go."

The guys laughed. "Really? Why would you want them to leave you alone while you’re sick?"

"Well, they went to visit a friend that we haven’t seen for awhile. He’s been teaching in Europe as an exchange teacher, so I told them that he would want to see us. But I’ll see him definitely on New Years so it won’t be that bad." She gave them a nervous smile which they returned back.

They sat in silence for awhile. Arlet didn’t realize her Backstreet Boys CD was on until "If You Want It To Be Good Girl (Get Yourself A Bad Boy) came blasting out of the speaker. Arlet turned scarlet.

"So, you’re a fan." Brian said amused. He shot Nick a look that Nick seemed to instantly know the meaning to.

"If you want it to be wild,
Gotta know just who to dial
Baby, that’s me.
If you really like it hot,
Has someone who hits the spot,
Honey, oh yeah"

Nick sang in front of her. Brian joined him. Arlet stared at them, completely dazed. Kevin, AJ and Howie laughed and jumped in, joining their 2 friends.

"And if you wanna get it done
Then you gotta get the one,
The one whose got it going on.

"If you wanna make it last
Gotta know just who to ask
Baby, it’s gotta be the best
Tonight.

"If you want it to be good girl
Get yourself a,
Bad boy.
If you really want it good girl,
Get yourself a,
Bad boy.
Get it like it could be,
Would be,
Yeah like it should be.
If you want it to be good, girl,
Get yourself a,
Bad boy.

"If you like it innovated,
Better get someone creative,
Honey, yes.
And if you want it to be jammin’
Gotta get somebody slammin’
Baby, oh yeah.

"And if you wanna get it done.
Then you gotta get the one,
The one whose got it goin’ on.

"Oh if you wanna make it last
Got know just who to ask.
Baby, it’s gotta be the best,
Tonight.

"If you want it to be good girl,
Get yourself a,
Bad Boy.
If you really want it good girl,
Get yourself a,
Bad boy.
Get it like it could be,
Would be,
Yeah like it should be.
If you want it to be good, girl
Get yourself a,
Bad boy."

The Boys did "inappropriate moves" that went perfectly with the song. Body rolls, pelvic thrusts, sexy looks are just some of the stuff they did. Especially Nick who went all out with his performance. At the end of the song, they posed in very provocative ways.

Arlet sat on the couch, not believing anything she just witnessed. The Backstreet Boys just gave me a live show, Arlet thought. She started to clap enthusiastically. The Boys smiled at her and bowed. They sat back down in their spots.

"Oh wow! I never thought I would ever get my own private show." Arlet said in awe.

"Well, I guess that’s like a ‘thank you’ for letting 5 strangers into your home. We are totally grateful for you graciousness." Howie told her.

"You’re welcome. I don’t think anyone deserves to be out in this weather. What were you guys doing, driving in conditions like these anyway?"

"Kevin got us lost." AJ told her.

"I did not! I just couldn’t see the road." Kevin said defensively.

"Why were you driving if you couldn’t see the road?" Arlet asked.

"It wasn’t like that when we left the airport. When we got into the city, it just seemed to get worse."

"Oh. Yeah, I guess that’s a good reason. The weather at the airport is completely different from the weather here. Obviously you’re not used to that, well, being from Florida. So, I guess I understand that. But why did have to come all the way down here? I mean, you knew it was winter and I’m pretty sure you would expect snow cause well, you’re in Colorado. So I mean, you could of stayed at one of the hotels near the airport."

"Well, I didn’t think it would be that bad so I thought we could make it to the hotel before it got worse. We didn’t want to spend our holiday break in a hotel near the airport anyway. The noise of planes flying over head would keep us awake every night."

"Good point."

"Speaking of sleeping, we would be staying the night here, right?" AJ asked. He pleaded with his eyes.

Arlet threw her head back and laughed. "Oh course! What? Do you expect me to throw you back out there?"

"Well, I was just wondering. I mean, your friends will come back and that’ll be a lot of people. But I guess it would be cool, you know, since it is a huge house.

"The only reason why it’s huge is because it needs to fit 5 full grown girls. There are only 5 bedrooms on the 2 floor above us and 1 bathroom for each room. Well, there is one down here also. But anyway, we don’t have special rooms like an office or a library or something, just the rooms that we need. And besides, my friends aren’t stupid enough to drive in a storm like this. I’m pretty sure they’ll stay at Shawn’s place."

"It doesn’t look like it’ll be too cramped in this house." Nick said looking around.

"Believe me, it does. When you got 5 full grown girls with lots of stuff they brought from their parents’ home, stuff from school and work, this place gets pretty packed. Since it’s the holidays, we’re off from our jobs and on break from school. We stuffed everything in our rooms."

"So, where would we stay for the night?"

Arlet hesitated with her answer. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to put them into the bedrooms. Her and her friends have covered every inch of their rooms with posters, pictures from the Internet, pin-ups from magazines and newspaper articles, if any, of the Backstreet Boys. She was sure that not only herself, but all her friends also would be completely embarrassed for their "dream men" to see that. But then again, she didn’t want to make them sleep in the living room or basement while there were 5 perfectly good, warm, comfortable, vacant beds upstairs. The basement, already cold enough from being underground, would be too cold with the snow. And it was the only "special room" they had that she didn’t tell them about. It was a entertainment room and only had one couch for them to sit on. Not to lay down on. And the living room, well, that’s where she’s been sleeping at since she became sick. She couldn’t go upstairs because it made her feel like passing out so she stayed in the living room. Looking at the Boys, she bit the bottom of her lip.

"Well, I guess you could uh…sleep on our rooms." Arlet said sheepishly. "I’m sleeping down here."

"No! You don’t have to sleep down here because of us." Brian told her.

"No, it’s OK. I can’t go up stairs anyway. If I do, I can’t even make it to the second floor without having to pass out. And my room is on the third floor." Arlet said with a tiny smile. "You sounded like my friend Sarah when I told them I was going to stay down here. They didn’t like the idea too well."

"Are you sure?"

"I’m positive. Anyway, you guys didn’t come to Colorado without luggage, did you?" Arlet asked, noticing no bags.

"Oh! We left them back in the car because we couldn’t carry them up here." Kevin told her.

"Oh…" Arlet said with an idea running through her head. "Well, you guys could sleep in um…your uh…designated rooms." Arlet told them, quietly.

The guys looked at her. She was playing with her hands, thoroughly embarrassed at her words. They all cocked an eyebrow.

"What do you mean by ‘designated?’ Did you guys plan for us to stop by your house in the future or somethin’?" AJ asked.

"Uh, no. Um…you see, we kinda named our rooms that fit the style of our favorite guy. We have huge signs on them indicating which room is which."

"Named? What kind of names?"

Arlet bit her lip again. "Well, for example, Michelle named her room ‘The Playroom of The Bone and Bonette.’"

AJ smiled. "Really? That’s really clever."

"Yeah. We named them like that."

"What did your other friends name their rooms?" Kevin asked, curiously. They looked at her, with the same interest written all over their faces.

"Uh…well Carrie named hers ‘Carrie and Kevin’s Ranch.’ Kim’s room is ‘Kim and Howie’s Love Nest’ and Sarah’s is ‘The Property of Brian and Sarah Littrell.’ You know, kind of like those basketball shirt."

"What about your room?" Nick asked with a smirk. He knew which Boy she left out and which room she didn’t mention.

Arlet stopped breathing. She didn’t want to tell him. The man she admired for so long, the man she dreamt about marrying in the future was sitting right next to her, asking her to tell him what she named her room. She felt her cheeks become radically warm and knew she must look like a dark, red cherry.

"Uh…well um, I uh…named it uh…nrmihrltbchhse." Arlet mumbled.

"What?"

Arlet stopped breathing once more. "Nick and Arlet’s Beach House." She answered, mortified.

"Really?" He asked, mischievously.

Arlet nodded. "Oh! Look at the time! It’s late and I should get some sleep! You know, being sick and all. Nick’s and Brian’s rooms are on the third floor and Kevin’s, Howie’s and AJ’s rooms are on the second floor. You each have a bathroom across the hall from each room." Arlet said quickly and nervously. "Well, good-night!"

The guys laughed as they got up from their seats and followed Arlet to the stairs. They said their good-night’s and walked up the stairs to their "designated rooms".

When they disappeared, Arlet walked back into the living room, with her head whirling from all that had just took place. She couldn’t believe the Backstreet Boys were staying in her house. She couldn’t believe Nick Carter was sleeping in her room. She couldn’t wait to tell her friends. She shrieked to herself as she continued to think about what just happened.

After a while flew by, and she knew all the Boys were asleep, she thought about the idea she had when Kevin had told her about their luggage being left in the car. She decided that she would take a risk and go down to their stranded car and grab their stuff. She knew how to drive in conditions like these if she had to so she decided that she wanted to help them out.

Arlet grabbed her coat, "Frack" beanie, gloves and boots and quietly walked out into the garage. She decided that she should take the huge pick-up truck with a cover that her and her friends used for their trips to the mountains. It had more room than her Jeep.

After grabbing the keys off the key rack next to the door, she jumped into the driver seat of the huge, red truck. She pushed the button for the garage door to open behind her. Arlet stuck the key into the ignition, started the car and backed out of the garage.

Forty-five minutes flew by and Arlet was back in the safety of her house. She unloaded all the luggage and placed them by the front door so they would see them when they walked down the stairs. After setting down the last suitcase, she smiled. She removed her coat, beanie, gloves and boots, went into the living room and laid down on the couch once more. Pulling the blanket up to her chin, she looked up at the ceiling and thought about the 5 men sleeping just on the 2 floors above her. Arlet smiled to herself and fell asleep a few minutes later.
