The Best Holiday Break Ever
By: Arlet Schmidt
CHAPTER SIX
When the Sun rose the next morning, the warm rays flooded through every window of the house Arlet shared with her 4 best friends.

AJ mumbled as the Sunlight slapped him across the face. When he opened his eyes, it took him a little bit to remember where he was and why he was there. He sat up on the bed and peaked through the veil drapes that hung around it. The whole room was already lit from the morning Sun and noticed all the papers laying around. As AJ got up from the bed, he realized all the pillows, sheets and the comforter were yellow.

"My favorite color." He said himself. For some reason, he felt completely touched. AJ looked around the room and sure enough, pictures of the guys and himself were plastered over almost every single inch of the walls. He saw the walls were also yellow through some of the tiny spots Michelle failed to cover completely. Again, he surprised himself when he realized how deeply touched he felt. He guessed he never really knew how much their fans really knew about them. He never realized how much time some of their fans spend on just himself alone. On him, AJ McLean. And he just thought of himself as a regular guy. He was utterly flattered and touched deep down in his heart.

Noticing a picture in a bright yellow, feathered picture frame, he walked over to it on a little table next to the bed and picked it up. It was a picture of Michelle and her family. He looked at the picture for awhile until he stopped his eyes on the spiked, short hair girl in it.

"Damn, she fine!" AJ said out loud. "I’m guessing this is Michelle. Can’t wait to meet her."

"Yo AJ! You up?" Came Howie’s voice from just outside his door.

"Yeah, I’ll be there in a sec." AJ said back. He looked at the photo one more time then sat it back down on the table.

He turned around to the small pile of clothing he made last night and threw on his pants and shirt. AJ quickly walked out of the room and saw that Kevin and Howie were waiting by the stairs. When he reached them, he noticed that they both had silly grins on their faces.

"Hey guys. What’s with the grins?" He asked.

"What’s are you talking about? You got one yourself." Howie answered.

"Oh…"

"Good morning fellas." Nick said walking down from the third floor with Brian. They too had the same grins.

"Let’s go downstairs and see if there is any food to eat." Brian suggested. They all nodded as they followed Brian down the stairs.

"Umpf!" They all exclaimed as Nick, AJ, Kevin and Howie ran into Brian.

"Yo Bri, what’s up? Why’d you stop, man?" AJ asked.

"Look." He answered quietly, pointing in front of him.

They looked. All of their luggage waited for them next to the front door. All they could do was look at each other, with smiles of gratitude.

The 5 of them then turned and walked into the living room where they found Arlet still asleep on the couch. Very quietly, they gathered around her and watched her sleep. They didn’t know what do say. They were at loss of words at the fact that she went out in a horrible blizzard with a very bad cold and at the risk of having her car quit just like theirs did.

"Oh Nick. I love you." Arlet said very quietly. She was dreaming.

The Boys smiled as they looked at Nick who was turning bright red before them.

"Let’s go into the other room so we don’t wake her." Kevin whispered.

"I can’t believe she got our stuff for us." Howie said as they walked into the kitchen.

"I know." Kevin said, leaning back on the counter next to the phone. The rest of them took a stool at the island.

"I think we should do something for her. I mean, she let 5 complete strangers stay in her home where she could of said no and she went out and got our luggage from the car where she could of gotten stuck herself. I definitely think we should do something for her."

"I agree. I think-" Kevin stopped as the phone started to ring next to him. "Should I answer it?"

The guys just shrugged. "Well, you’re closest to it. You get it." Nick said.

"Thanks." Kevin replied sarcastically. The phone continued to ring. "I don’t know if I should."

"Just answer it. It may be important."

Kevin reached out for the phone on it’s fifth ring. "Hello?" He answered slightly nervous.

"Hello?" Came a shocked voice on the other end. Carrie shot a frightened glance at Sarah. "Is um…Arlet there?"

"Uh…she’s sleeping. Can I take a message?"

"No, that’s OK." Carrie replied. It’s a guy, she mouthed to Sarah.

She looked at Carrie amazed. "Who is it?" She whispered. Carrie just shrugged.

"Who is this?" Carrie blurted out.

Kevin hesitated. "Um…Kevin."

"Kevin? Kevin who?" Then the unthinkable ran through her head. No, it can’t be, she thought.

"Kevin Richardson." He answered quietly.

Carrie eyes widened so big that they were the size of tea plates.

"Hello?" Kevin asked on the other end. No answer. "Hello?" He asked again.

"Oh my God!" Carrie shrieked. "Oh my God!"

"What? Who is it?" Her friend asked. Carrie couldn’t answer.

Kevin pulled the phone away from his ear. The guys laughed when they heard shrieking from the phone.

"Hey, calm down. Chill." Kevin said, calmly. "Hey, breath. Can you breath for me?"

Carrie tried to calm herself down. She took in deep breaths and could feel her cheeks start to become warm.

"What are you doing at our house?"

"Well, our car broke down at the bottom of the hill of your house and so your house was the only thing we saw and we walked up. Arlet was gracious enough to let us stay."

"Well, duh! I mean, I think anyone would gladly let you in."

"She didn’t know it was us until we brushed off all the snow and took off our hats."

"Oh! Wow! I can’t believe it! Uh…anyways, could you tell Arlet, if she wakes up that we’ll be home soon and that we’re sorry we didn’t call?"

"Sure. Will do, Sweetie. It was nice talking to you. Can’t wait to meet you."

Carrie blushed even harder. She thanked God Kevin, her dream man, couldn’t see her. "Yeah, you too! I’ll see you later."

"OK then. Can’t wait. Bye."

"Bye." They both hung up.

"Who was that?" Brian asked his cousin.

"That was one of Arlet’s friends. She said they’ll be coming home soon." Kevin replied.

"This is gonna interesting." Nick said with a grin.

When Carrie hung up the phone, she remained silent for at least a minute or 2.

"Carrie? Who was it?" Sarah asked.

Carrie slowly turned around to face her best friend. Then she screamed.

"That was Kevin Richardson!"

"WHAT?!" Sarah responded shocked.

"Kevin Richardson! THE Kevin Richardson! MY Kevin Richardson!"

"Oh my God! You’re kidding me?!"

"No! I just talked to Kevin Richardson!"

"What are you screaming about?" Shawn asked walking into his kitchen. He was followed by everyone else.

"I just hung up the phone with Kevin Richardson!"

"WHAT?!" Michelle and Kim shouted at the same time.

"I know! He called me ‘Sweetie’!"

"What is he doing at our house?" Michelle asked, stimulated.

"He told me that their car broke down at the bottom of the hill and they walked to our house. Can you believe it? My baby, Kevin Richardson is at our house!"

"They? Oh my God! The rest of them of are there also!" Kim shrieked. The rest of the girls joined in.

"Woa, woa, woa, woa! Hold on a sec. Who is this Kevin guy?" Shawn asked. The girls looked at him as if he was completely out of his mind.

"Are you serious?" Sarah asked, perplexed.

"Yeah."

"That ‘Kevin guy’ happens to be my future husband." Carrie informed them, matter-of-factly.

Shawn, Deven, Lyndsey, Lance and Kate looked at each other.

"The Backstreet Boys." They said in unison.
