26/09/02: Marta & Mariajo won!!. Marta came back from a 3-5 to defeat Pratt 7-5 6-3 in a great performance to reach 1st quarters of the year. Mariajo demolished Cravero 6-0 6-1 and will play now Arancha Parra. Good luck girls!!
25/09/02: Mariajo & Anabel didnt win the final. Anyway it was a great result for both, who are playing at Lecce this week, but not in doubles as Mariajo has to play the qualifying at Girona at the weekend. Mariajo plays Cravero in the 1st round. There are also good news from Marta. She has won in singles and doubles at Bali. In doubles, playing with Alicia Molik, will play Conchita Martinez & Pato Tarabini in the quarters after they won Krasnoroutskaya & Musgrave in the 1st round 6-3 2-6 6-4. In singles, Marta defeated defending champion Angelique Widjaja 6-4 6-3 and now plays Nicole Pratt. Best of luck girls!!
22/09/02: After a week with early defeats for Marta & Mariajo, Marta will play this week at Bali, where she faces in the 1st round Angelique Widajaja. Mariajo, who finally is playing again with Anabel Medina, will play the doubles final at Biella against Bes and Bacheva. Best of luck girls!!
12/09/02: Mariajo has also lost in doubles with Eva Bes in the 2nd round at Bordeaux. Anabel Medina is back to the competition after a long break with her injury, and there are not plans for her & Mariajo playing together next weeks...
10/09/02: There are not wins for Marta & Mariajo this week. Marta has lost already in singles & doubles at Shanghai, being defeated by Jelena Kostanic 6-4 6-4 in the 1st round, while Mariajo has lost to Rita Kuti Kis 6-1 6-2 in the 1st round fo the qualifying at Bordeaux.
05/09/02: Mariajo could not with Bacheva losing in a hard match 7-6 1-6 and 6-3. Mariajo will play next week at Bordeaux while Marta will play at Shanghai.
04/09/02: María José has won María Geznenge 3-6 6-3 6-1 and will play now the favourite for the title Lubomira Bacheva for a place in the quarterfinals. In doubles Mariajo also won with Gourevitch against Daskovic and Zaric 6-0 y 6-2. ¡¡Vamos!!.
02/09/02 : Mariajo has lost in the qualy round of Denain. Mariajo who had defeated Kravents and Hewitt in the previous rounds could not win Pastikova losing in 3 set. However, Mariajo will be in the main draw as a lucky loser, playing bulgarian Geznenge in the 1st round. ¡Ánimo María José!
29/08/02 : There was not win in doubles either. Marta & Müller were defeated 7-6 6-1 by french Nathalie Dechy and american Meilen Tu. By the way, Mariajo will play the qualifying round in Denain.
26/08/02 : Marta could not pass the 1st round at the US Open this year either. The spanish gave a great fight to russian Anastasia Myskina, who had to come from a set behind to defeat Marta 4-6 6-4 6-0. In doubles Marta plays with Martina Müller in the 1st ronda against Dechy & Tu. ¡¡Suerte!!.
20/08/02: Marta has lost to Patty Schnyder in the 1st round at New Haven 6-4 6-1. But she had passed the qualifying round of the tournament with great wins over Talaja, Molik & Torrens. Now Marta will focus on the US Open where she has a hard rival in the 1st round, russian Anastasia Myskina
16/08/02: Mariajo is in the 2nd round at the ITF in Aosta, where she faces Petra Cetkovska. In the 1st round Mariajo defeated Italy's Lisa Tognetti 6-3 6-3. Marta will play now at New Haven, the previous tournament to the US Open, where she faces Silivja Talaja in the 1st round of the qualifying.
11/08/02: Mariajo & Eva lost the final in a very tied match 3-6 7-6 3-6 to Arantxa & Svetlana. Anyway it has been a great results for Mariajo, let's hope she gets more confident now.
10/08/02: Mariajo & Eva Bes have reached the doubles final at Helsinki, where they face Arantxa Sanchez & Svetlana Kuznetsova. This is the 1st final of the year for Mariajo, who can win tomorrow her 5th doubles title. In Montreal, Marta has lost 6-2 6-2 to Frazier in the qualifying.
29/07/02: The bad way continues...Mariajo has got another bad result this week, as she has been defeated in the 2nd round of the qualifying round at Saint Gaudens, an ITF in France. After defeating Aurore Desert 6-0 7-5, Mariajo lost to Chakhnashvili 6-3 6-4.
24/07/02: Marta & Mariajo lost her doubles match. Being seeded 2, they lost 6-4 5-7 6-1 to Barclay & Müller. Next week there is not WTA tournaments so Marta is not playing. Maria Jose perhaps is playing in France.
23/07/02: Marta has lost to Arantxa. The veteran spaniard won 6-3 6-1 getting revenge from the lose against Marta in Roland Garros. Marta needs to find some regularity in her game, because she plays some weeks incredible tennis (Spanish championships, Fed Cup) and the next weeks she plays horrible (Brussels, Sopot). Tomorrow Marta & Mariajo play doubles. Best of luck!!.
21/07/02: Marta has also won today her 2nd Fed Cup match against Anca Barna 7-6 2-6 6-2, so great debut for Marrero. Spain won 5-0 and now will face Austria in the semifinales. Good luck Marta in Sopot next week.
20/07/02: Marta won!!! She has defeated Martina Müller 6-1 6-1 in a brilliant match, where Marta was always in control, playing so a good tennis. Spain leads Germany 2-0 after Arantxa Sanchez' win. In Sopot next week, Marta will have to play her Fed Cup partner Arantxa Sanchez in the first round, while in doubles....guess what. Yes!! Marta & Mariajo are playing together again!.
19/07/02: Marta will make her debut at the Fed Cup tomorrow!! She has to play Martina Müller. This is a great chance for Marta, who will finally play for her country in this competition. In Sopot, Mariajo has lost to Kuznetsova 6-3 6-7 6-4 in the qualifying.
13/07/02: Marta & Tatiana were stopped at the quarters in doubles while Mariajo & Svetlana reached the semifinals. Next week Marta will be part of the spanish team in the Fed Cup for the 1st time. It'll be played in Mallorca and Spain has to face Germany. Spain will be represented by Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Magüi Serna, Vivi Ruano & Marta. For Germany will be playing Müller, Rittner, Weingartner & Lamade. The tie will be played next weekend.
10/07/02: Marta has suffered a surprising defeat against Els Callens 6-1 6-2 in Brussels. It was such a deception as Marta had played a great tennis last week. Anyway she still continues in doubles with Poutchek. They have reached the quarters where they face Schwartz & Woehr. Mariajo is still in Casablanca playing doubles with Kuznetsova. They are in the quarters against Mouthassine & Sassi. Good luck girls!!.
07/07/02: Marta is the new champion of Spain, after she defeated Marta Fraga 6-1 6-0 to get the title in a one sided match. This is a great win for Marta, who has been playing a wonderful tennis all the week. Now she is in Brussels where she plays tomorrow. Mariajo has lost in the 2nd round fo the qualifying at Casablanca at the hands of Mens, after she had defeated Collinschonn in the 1st round. We congratulate Serena Williams for her Wimbledon title and the #1 in the world rankings.
06/07/02: Mariajo lost her 2nd round match to Iveta Benesova 6-3 6-7 6-4. Now she will play the qualifying at Casablanca where she faces Isabel Collinschonn in the 1st round. On the other hand, Marta is doing so well in the spanish championships. She has won the doubles title with Gisela Riera and she is in the singles final where she has to play Marta Fraga. Next week Marta will play at Brussels, where she faces Els Callens in the 1st round. Good luck girls!!
03/07/02: Mariajo has won her 1st round match against Maria Goloviznina 6-1 6-2. Maria Jose seems to have found her game again and will play now Iveta Benesova for a place in the quarters. In Spain, Marta has to play Nuria Sanchez in her 1st match. Best of luck girls!!
01/07/02: Maria Jose has reached the main draw at Orbatello after she won 3 matches to pass the qualifying round, with wins over Takase, Pizzichini & Wheeler. Now she will face in the 1st round Russia's Maria Goloviznina. In Spain, Marta has a bye in the 1st round. Go girls!!
27/06/02: Marta has lost in singles and doubles at Wimbledon. Playing the currently world numer 3, Marta was defeated 6-2 6-1 by Jennifer Capriati and lost 6-1 6-1 agains Rubin & Kournikova in doubles. Mariajo, who was playing at Fontanafredda, reached the 2nd round with a win over Pandjerova but lost against Santangelo 7-5 3-6 6-4. Next week Marta will be playing in the Spanish championships while Mariajo has to play the qualifying round at Orbetello.
24/06/02: Marta has advanced to the 2nd round at Wimbledon with a straight victory over Alina Jidkova 6-0 7-6 (5). After a one-sided 1st set, the 2nd was very exciting, very tied untill Marta got the break and served for the match at 5-4. She could not hol and sam story again at 6-5. In the tie break Marta was losing 2-5, but she made an extraordinary come back to take it 7-5. In the next round Marta will play Jennifer Capriati. Today is the birthday of one of the webmaster of this web, and Marta's win has been a nice present. Best of luck on wednesday Marta!!
20/06/02: Marta & Tatiana Poutchek reached the quarters in doubles, defeating Anca Barna & Marlene Weingartner 1-6 7-6 6-2 in the 1st round before they lost to Barclay & Muller 6-3 6-2. In Gorizia Mariajo has lost again in a 1st round, to Valentina Sassi 6-4 7-5....
On the other hand, Marta will play Jidkova in the 1st round of Wimbledon. In doubles Marta plays with Eva Bes.
17/06/02: Marta has lost to Dementieva in the 1st round at 's-Hertogenbosch 7-6 6-3. It was a tough match with both players having their chances. It was just bad luck Marta could not win the tie break. Anyway it seems Marta is playing good on grass. Let's hope she can win lot of matches at Wimbledon. In doubles Marta is playing this week with Tatiana Poutchek. Good luck!!
16/06/02: Today has been one of the best day on my life since i have been following tennis. Yesterday i finally got to talk with Marta Marrero on the MSN. She was so nice and very talkative.. she was happy with the suppourt that people like me give her and well we talked about the tour and her results.... I was so shocked i could not belive i was talking with my idol, and that she was being sooo nice.
When she left, i decided to send her an interview to post it in this web. It was such a big interview and i was like...hmm im sure she wont ever bother to asnwer it. But omg when i have checked today my emails, wow my heart started to bit so fast when i saw her name in the box mail. and omg she had answered all my interview!! You know, i didnt expected her to answer me, because you know, i was just an unknow person for her, and she has lot of things to do...but omg she took time to answer it and she made it just in less than 24 hours... omg this was so special and if i loved Marta before this, now i just can say that i will be her fan forever.... it has meant a lot for me.... Thanks Marta!! (I hope i can talk to Mariajo one day too)
14/06/02: Mariajo & Nuria reached the doubles semifinals defeating Amanmuradurova/Isroilova 6-4 6-4, but they just have lost to Buric/Fokina 6-1 7-6. These were the third doubles semis of the year for Mariajo in doubles. Marta has also lost in the quarters to Mandula & Wartusch 6-1 6-1. Now Marta will fly to Holland while Mariajo i hope would be playing next week at Wimbledon.
12/06/02: Both Marta & Maria Jose has gone through to the next round in doubles. Marta & Gagliardi survived the fight of Freye/Hiraki 7-5 4-6 6-2 and will play now Mandula/Wartusch for a place in the semifinals. Maria Jose & Nuria Llagostera has defeated the top seeds at Tashken 6-4 6-4 to Dominikovic/Garbin. Good luck in the next round girls!!
11/06/02: It could not be. Marta & Mariajo have been defeated at Vienna & Tashken. Marta lost in a tough match against Henrieta Nagyova 2-6 6-4 & 7-6. It's sad to see her losing in a third set tie break, but anyway Marta is playing each week better against the players ranked above her, good sign. On the other hand Maria Jose has lost again. It's getting worrying, because she has so an incredible potential, but she can'y play her tennis.... She went out to Adriana Barna 6-3 6-4. We hope they can go far in the doubles.
