Beijing, 5 April 2003
Yes, shopping properly, then my favo temple, this was going to b a fab day! :o)
First we took the subway to Beijing Zhan and then we walked to Hongqiao. On the way there (it was a long way) we crossed a bridge and there you could c how smoggy it was tday. No, it's not fog, it is smog!
This is my favo temple in Beijing, Tiantan. In English: the Temple of Heaven.
I had the same photo w/o me, but it didn't get loaded properly, so this will have to do. Me at Tiantan again at last, yessss! :o)
I spotted this really old tree when we walked away from the temple.
This temple was also guarded by cops.
No comment necessary
Isn't it pretty?
I also looked away from Tiantan, while standing on the same spot on the suntemple.
There was a group of Chinese ppl just having fun w the whole sunworshipping etc, and the Americans were just staring at them... Especially the lady in front.
I was standing on a suntemple thingy and I looked back toward Tiantan. Here u can c the Echo Wall, where we didn't go into.
The actual suntemple. I'm actually not really sure if it is called that way, but from what I could make out of what a Chinese guide was telling his group when I was listening in, it had something to do w worshipping something. Probably heaven now that I come to think of it... Anyway, it happened here.
The entrance from the park to the temple.
It was quite busy, it being Sunday & all, and even here they were reconstructing! Grmph...
It can get v busy then... This is a big group singing Chinese songs. It stretched across the entire walkway and there were about 3 groups like this. Unfortunately all singing different songs...
On Sunday ppl go into the park and sing etc. This was another guy playing his Chinese instrument.
Close up as I loved the roof deco...
These guys were singing opera. No, not Beijing Opera, normal opera. In Chinese though...
And then we both spotted the same tree. Time to climb! ;o)
First Vincent...
Vincent was looking around a bit...
Close up on Chinese roof deco's. The more deco, the richer the ppl.
And then me too of course.
Another nice tree
Vincent had also bought a kite in Hongqiao and this was the perfect opp to try it out. First it had to be put together though.
We went further into the park and there were tons of ppl flying kites. And doing fitness on public fitness equipment.
And later almost landed on top of my head... I couldn't count all the kites in the sky, there were simply too many.
But then it flew!
On the way back to the subway we walked passed the stadium. Quite impressive by night...
Then we went to SanLiTun as it was getting colder. While we got lost trying to find the market, we passed this food market.
But later we found the market. Indoors now to my great disappointment. :o(
