| The species listed here are species which are listed under CITES appendix I most endangered species list. Species listed under appendix I are threatened with extinction. CITES generally prohibit the commercial international trade of these species apart from under exceptional circumstances. One of the major reasons for the decline of many parrot species is the illegal trade in wild-caught birds.
