October, 2001
October was a "whirlwind" month.  We returned from the B.O.A. Rally in Midland, Michigan on Monday afternoon, October 1.   We unloaded and cleaned out the Bounder, did laundry, had a doctor's appointment, repacked our clothes and early on Wednesday, Oct. 3 we flew to Bradenton, Florida with Tom's sister and her husband, Judy and Ron Kaminski.  In Florida we all worked to clean out Mother and Dad's mobile home and ready it for sale, get it listed, have the moving van come over two days to pack and load, arrange to have her auto shipped to Ohio, arrange for transfer of Dad's medical care,  and then fly back to Toledo on Tues. Oct. 9, bringing Mother and Dad with us to live in Ohio again.  It was an exhausting and frustrating week of hard work.  But, we did manage to go out to eat a few times and to take a quick trip to the beach one afternoon.

We arrived in Toledo around 6pm on the 9th,and got Dad immediately settled in at the Spring Meadows Extended Care Facility in Holland.   At 9 the next morning, the moving van was here with all of the boxes and furniture to unpack.  But, by that evening, Mother's new apartment was looking quite "comfy."  Each day since we have tried to do a few more things to get her settled in.  She is, however, having a difficult time becoming oriented to the new community and where things are and somebody is going with her each day to see that she finds her way to the nursing home to visit Dad, even though it is only about 100 yards away.  Tom has been meeting with various county offices to arrange for Dad's Medicaid status and to take care of items they demand be in place for his coverage to take effect....a very time-consuming project.

Late on Thursday, Oct 11  Tom and I took the Bounder to East Fork State Park east of Cincinnatti for a weekend rally sponsored by Holman Motors.  There were about 25 coaches there and we got to see some Bounder friends that we hadn't seen in over a year.  There was evening entertainment and we had a great weekend.   On Sunday afternoon we drove to Marysville and parked in front of Ann and Matt's house.  Coffey, Chloe and Merrick - and of course, Jack, the puppy - are bundles of energy.  We had a wonderful visit with them all...they are growing so fast, and each visit brings new things!  We stayed there till Wednesday morning when we drove the Bounder home, dropped it off and then continued in the car to Adrian, Michigan for a farewell lunch with Mary's mom and step-father.  They have now left for Texas for the winter, and we hope to see them in Pharr sometime soon.  Then it was back to Wyandotte and the adventures here.

Over the weekend of Octber 26-28, we camped at Sauder Village in Archbold, OH.  The village is a historic representation of life in the 1800's with many different operating "shops" and "businesses" as well as homes.  It was also "hog butchering day" and we got to see the process from pigs in the barnyard to fresh cooked sausage later in the day...a very interesting process.  There was also a woodcarvers show being held at the village and we enjoyed seeing the many different styles of woodcraft.  One day wa not long enough to see all there was to see in the village.  We shared a great weekend and celebrated our 34th anniversary at the village Barn restaurant  with our good friends Jacques and Sandee Everhart (our Alaska companions) and Ed and Sue Sims, fellow Bounder owners from Mt. Vernon, OH.
October 31, of course, brought Halloween.  Unfortunately, Tom had to stay at home to look after affairs for his parents, but Mary went to Marysville to help with the celebration there.  Following the theme of their favorite place to visit, the three granddaughters were zoo animals.  They managed to collect quite a stash of treats (and no tricks) while Grandma stayed home to answer the door.
