Jewish Reflection
The social aspects is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because when the Jews came they were succeeding in life, but it was hard to try to stay on the top. The Jews were working hard to try to support each other in their families, just like the family in the tenement writer. It talks about the newspapers and how there were different kinds just for the Jews. It provided Jewish immigrants an opportunity to view themselves with different eyes. This means that the Jewish immigrants could write about themselves in a different kind of perspective. The social aspects is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because about the different points of views the Jews viewed themselves as, and to never give up hope on what you believe in. The Jewish immigrants from Europe increased because of all the free social points they could have. The social aspects is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because the Jews wanted to fit in with everyone else, and when they wanted something so bad, that they would do anything to get it, they tried and tried and never gave up hope on what they believed in. Which I think is a very good idea, if you believe in yourself and believe that you could do anything you want if you set your mind to it, you would be able to achieve it and find it just worthwhile. Social aspects of the Jews that we have been learning in class this week was similar because the website talked about the Jews part in America, like they did help out America, into making what we have today. Just like the Chinese, the Jewish fought for a cause and it was to become more Americanized, most people who immigrate her just wanted to look like everyone else so they won't feel so left out. People didn't like being called named names like "green horn."
The religious aspects is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because the website talks about why the Jewish decided to come to America. It was because they had more rights and opportunities than their homeland and because they give you more choices of life, like you could practice your religion there. The information on the website is similar to what I have been learning in class because many Jews immigrated to America because of the religious freedom they could get. They could live among the other people. The Jews could start their own business America, which they couldn't do in their homeland. In their homeland they were separated from the other people, were they got the bad part of the land, and they didn't get much food. They had no power in their homeland to stand up for themselves. They were too poor and there have less power to govern themselves. They were treated horribly by the other people living there. But they decided to go to America because of all the wonderful things about it like the golden streets, and the rich life. But when the Jews got there they didn't find what they expected. They could start and open essential religious institutions, primarily the synagogue. They could teach other people living in America, about what is special about the Jewish culture and what they could do. The information on the website is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because the website talks about how their were Jewish neighborhoods and the Jews were allowed to go to school. From the book the tenement writer, the Jews found life very stressful because they couldn't make enough money to support their family, and when the girl wanted to get an education, her parents took her out to work because they weren't making enough money to support the family. So many Jews that came were poor, so they needed to find jobs to support their families. In that time many poor immigrants immigrated to America.
The economical aspects is similar to what I have been learning in class this week because many people and groups like the Jews were free of racism, prejudices, and religious discrimination, so they are free to simply do whatever they felt like. They aren't different, and they felt more at home, when they knew that there were people just like them everyone they turn. When the Jews came to America, they found an environment so different from the ones they were escaping that they felt free. The Jewish had different economical rights than the other people, they had no racism, prejudices, and religious discrimination.
"I enjoyed my first sight of the city immensely. The sight was so different, the hundreds of cabs, wagons, carts. Even one who has seen Germany's largest cities can hardly believe his eyes and ears."2 Abraham Kohn, Reflections of a New England Peddler
Many people enjoy the sight that America have to offer, even though they didn't have good jobs, they enjoyed that they have come and become free Americans, who still have a little Jewish history behind them. The Jewish immigrants also found work in businesses pertaining to religious and cultural demands, such as situations that included kosher butchers, kosher grocery stores and restaurants, kosher wine shops, matzo factories and stores selling religious items. They are saying that the Jewish immigrants cannot stick to their religion when they are going these kinds of jobs, because they think that its not fair if you sell religious items, you might tell the buyer to buy your religions item, it is like a sort of bribery or a sort of deal.
