I had an interesting conversation with one of our regs in BPE last night, over the right to bear arms. To which of course I feel if you feel the need that the government is not doing its job to protect you and your family and you have passed a psychological test including having an active sobriety record, then by all means have a gun safely tucked away in your home. This however brought me to something much more dangerous than a gun lying locked up in a drawer somewhere ....... Our Cars ....
Last year a Texas woman (drunk while driving) allowed a man to bleed to death still stuck in her windshield. Some weeks back another intoxicated woman ploughed into some children, killing one and injuring the others. An elderly gentleman over 70 hit the gas pedal instead of the break and killed numerous innocent people. Last week A Québec man hit and drove for an hour with a youth imbedded in his windshield.
When will the Governments stop giving licenses to kill our children? Active drug abusers and active alcoholics should not have a license to carry a gun nor should they be allowed to carry a license to drive, which is just as deadly if not more. Elderly people should be tested much more often and there should be a finally of when grandpa or grandma should sensibly stop driving.
Taking away a driver’s license for a certain amount of time after a crime has been committed is not the solution. Making sure that some with rage in their personal histories, alcohol and drug abuse, and other psychological defaults should just never have the right to carry a gun or drive a car.
