Sam Mason's GPS/AVL Airport Trials
One of my airport projects was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, "Tech-Life" section. I managed a demonstration program supported by Galaxy Scientific Corporation, for Vehicle Tracking at Philadelphia International Airport. The full article is attached for your reading.
My second vehicle tracking project was with C-Map Aviation. From the Facilities Snow Desk base station, we were able to track up to nine airport snow removal vehicles in real-time. The program lasted for 1 year and was very successful.
The software and mobile equipment were demonstrated to representatives from the City of Philadelphia GIS User Group, the FAA, and other aviation industry professionals. PHL is continually interested in developing a specification for permanent implementation of AVL which will meet the "DEVS" or Driver's Enhanced Vision System, FAA requirement, detailed in AC150/5210-19.
