Fireworks

By Old English Dave

Summary: Sequel to “Touch Paper”, please read that first. Angel’s got his soul back, and has let on to Cordelia that he’s in love with her.

Cordelia pulled on a t-shirt and jeans.

How dare he tell her that and then leave.... disappear into thin air.

She’d wanted Angel to tell her he loved her for months.... she’d always thought it would have been one of the best moments of her life if it ever happened.... now he’d told her exactly that and somehow managed to spoil it! She knew she couldn’t leave it there.... she had to go after him right away and sort things out....

She left her apartment and set off for the Hyperion....

***************

“I can’t believe I said it,” Angel sat drinking coffee at Kate’s.

“Did you mean it?”

“Of course I did!”

“So.... let me get this right.... you told her you loved her.... and then you fled her apartment without giving her a chance to respond.”

“Fled’s putting it a bit strong!”

“How would you put it, then?”

“Well.... more like.... sort of.... yeah, fled’s pretty accurate I suppose.”

“Sometimes, Angel, for a ‘close to 250 year old’, you can be incredibly stupid!”

“Tell me something I don’t know, Kate.”

“I’m not sure what to tell you at all.... I’m amazed you would come to me for advice on your love life.... I ‘ve not had one successful relationship in my entire life.”

“I haven’t a lot of female friends, Kate.... if I’d done this to you, how would you react?”

“Easy... I’d shoot you!” Kate looked over and saw Angel’s face. “That was a joke, Angel.... just trying to lighten the mood.”

“That’s not helping, Kate.”

“Look.... OK.... if I was Cordelia, I reckon I’d be mighty pissed off either way! If I didn’t love you, I’d be thinking you’ve just risked ruining our friendship.... if I did love you, I would probably have been hoping and imagining that when you finally revealed your love, it would be one of the truly great romantic moments.... didn’t exactly manage that, did you.... And you know what - from what I’ve seen, I’d lay odds she does love you.”

Angel spent a few seconds taking in what she’d said.

“What should I do next?”

“I think you know that, don’t you.”

***************

Cordelia had arrived at the Hyperion but Angel was nowhere to be found. Well, he had to be back sometime.... and when he did come back, she’d be there. She sat down in his bedroom to wait. As time passed, she began to feel uneasy.... being on her own in a huge hotel in the dead of night was not her idea of fun. Where the hell was he?

***************

Angel arrived back at Cordelia’s determined to face the music. He knocked on the door repeatedly but there was no reply. He let himself in with his spare key and searched the apartment.

“Where is she, Dennis?.... has she gone looking for me?... come on, Dennis.... usual system.... flash lights once for ‘yes’, twice for ‘no’....”

There was no response.

“Don’t give me a hard time, Dennis.... there’s no need, I’m already giving myself that.... has she gone looking for me?”

After a pause, the lights flashed once.

“To the Hyperion?”

Dennis answered in the affirmative.

“Was she upset?”

To Angel’s dismay, yet again the lights flashed once.

***************

Cordelia had been sat on Angel’s bed quietly getting madder.... and madder.... and madder.

She heard Angel’s soft footsteps approaching the room. As he entered, she leapt off the bed and rushed over to him.

“Cordelia, I....”

She punched him - in the back of her mind expecting that the battle-hardened, super-strong vampire would at least deflect the blow. He didn’t. It caught him completely off-guard - it was the last thing he was expecting. The punch struck him flush on the jaw and, because he was totally off-balance, knocked him flying - as he fell his head cracked sickeningly on the doorframe. He sat up in a daze and could feel blood trickling down the side of his face.

“Angel.... I’m so sorry!” Cordelia was mortified.

She helped him up and he sat down on the bed. She ran to get the first-aid box.

“It’s OK.... it’s nothing,” reassured Angel as she arrived back - antiseptic and bandages in hand.

“Let me see...”

He allowed her to examine the wound and winced slightly as she applied the antiseptic. It wasn’t too bad a cut. Cordelia looked into his eyes.

“Did you mean it.... before.... what you said.... you love me?”

“Well, up until about five minutes ago!” replied Angel smiling briefly before looking serious. “Yes, I love you.” He reached out and tenderly stroked the side of her face. “Do you feel the same way?”

She flung her arms around his neck and pressed her mouth against his, forcing her tongue inside. As their lips met and tongues explored, both were taken aback by the intensity and passion of the moment. Urgency became the order of the day.

Angel pulled her onto the bed next to him. Cordelia raised her arms to allow Angel to slip her shirt over her head. She gasped as he lowered his head and teased her swollen nipple with his tongue. In her haste, she practically tore off Angel’s shirt. They clawed at each other’s remaining clothes in desperation until, both finally naked, Cordelia lay back on the bed pulling Angel on top of her.

His hand strayed between her legs and found her gaping wide and dripping wet. He himself was fully erect.... painfully erect.

There was a tacit and instinctive understanding between them that this was not the occasion for foreplay.... a primal force had taken over and compelled them on.

As Angel positioned himself between her open legs, Cordelia took his throbbing erection and guided him inside her.

Angel had never had a problem with premature ejaculation in his entire unlife.... but then he had never ever wanted a woman as badly as he wanted Cordelia. He was overcome with desire. As he plunged repeatedly into Cordelia making her gasp and moan with pleasure, she ground her hips to meet every stroke. Angel desperately tried to think of mundane things.... the weather.... the washing-up.... whether the
Clippers would ever have a winning season.... anything to delay the inevitable.

Cordelia looked up at Angel and could see the desire in his eyes but his face was demon-free - his desire was pure Angel.

She could feel her orgasm building.... her body on fire as she felt Angel.... her Angel.... thrust inside her until, finally, her entire being screamed as wave after wave of pleasure washed over her. Seeing and feeling Cordelia writhing beneath him sent Angel over the
top.... he experienced pure joy, true happiness, as his barren seed burst forth inside her - her muscles contracting around him, draining him dry.

Soon they made love again.... and again.... slow, satisfying, sensual love long into the night until finally both were fully sated. They lay in each other’s arms.... Cordelia’s head resting on Angel’s chest.... fully at ease with each other.

Angel broke the silence.

“You never answered my question.”

“What question?” asked Cordelia innocently.

“I asked whether you felt the same way.”

“Nah.... can’t stand you.... what just happened, that was just me feeling sorry for you.... duh!” - she looked up at Angel wickedly, then her face softened and she went on tenderly - “I love you Angel.... I love you so much it hurts.... I’ve loved you for so long.... I never had a clue you felt the same.”

“It took me a while to realize it.... sometimes I’m a bit slow on the uptake. You know, tonight was the best night of my life.... well, if you forget the stupid way I behaved.... getting punched to the ground by a 20 year-old girl.... banging my head....”, he gingerly felt
the lump that had formed on the side of his head, “.... despite all that, it was still the best night of my life.”

Cordelia leaned over and gently kissed him.

“What just happened.... it was incredible wasn’t it.... I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

“Me neither.”

“Really?!”

“Really.... not even with Buffy in case you were about to ask.”

“I’d never have asked.... but it’s good to know.”

Cordelia looked dreamily into Angel’s eyes.

“So who’s going to tell the guys?!” she wondered aloud.

The End.
