Page 2  Mastiffs do not breed easy.

My first step was to make sure Bertha passed all of her heath testings. There are eight main tests the the Mastiff Club of America suggests for breeding.  They are:
HIPS, ELBOWS,vwD ( a bleeding disorder), THYROID,CARDIAC,PATELLA'S, CYSTINURIA, AND CERT.( EYES) They have just discovered the gene marker for PRA in Mastiffs! This is wonderful news. Bertha and Lucy will be tested in the fall.

Now, some breeders test for all, some just test for a couple, and some not at all.

So, with passing the tests with flying colars, I was ready to breed. I found a perfect match for her in CA. So with the help of Fedex and Artifical Insemination, we bred her to. Sir Denali. A big beautiful male out of Gulph Mills Mastiffs.
So...we tried, and then tried again...and again. On the third breeding ( which was now a year and half later) the breeding finally took. I was SOOOOOO excited. When the x-ray came back, it showed just ONE puppy. ONE. I was in shock. One puppy? How can you have just ONE puppy???

After being reassured by a long time mastiff breeder,  that this was indeed quite normal for mastiffs, I calmed down a little and prepared for one puppy. . On Aug. 28th 2000. Mt.Tom's Here Comes Trouble ( aka Lucy) came into this world. Oh my she was beautiful!. I fell in love all over again.

So, another year passed, and I read all that I could regarding Mastiffs and breeding. We went to shows, taught some obedience classes, went to schools to teach dog bite preventions to school age children and kept my eyes open for another stud dog that would have the qualities that I was searching for.

Another year has come and gone, and it is puppy time again. This litter is due in late June. Ch. Windfall's Bud delite from Windfall Mastiffs in Ohio. Wish us luck!
