Hi my name is Kevin. I am 10 years old. Four years ago, when I was 6, I started my fight for the rights of invertebrates. Invertebrates are the majority on our planet. Today it is kind of a fashion to protect minorities. People protect dogs, cats, etc. But no one wants to thing about the majority: Invertebrates. Invertebrates also want to be loved and to be taken care off.

There was a survey on CNN recently about the most common phobia in the world. I thought it would be hunger, or nuclear bombs or something like that. But it turned out to be something different; 80% of people around the world are afraid of spiders. Can you believe? People hate them just because they look different... They hate them just because of their looks...

When I was 4 years old my mom opened a restaurant in Moscow. I ate there many times. I loved these small bugs and warms. They tasted like chips, and there were no chips in Russia at that time. Everyone said that the food was very healthy: no fat, no cholesterol, very much protein and lots of vitamins. They called it all "21 century food".

Something terrible happened on my birthday, February 26th 1996. I was taken to the kitchen. It was very fund to begin with and I finally saw how they were making the meals. The chefs were throwing insects into the boiling oil or in the boiling water and the insects were dying there. I cried for the whole night when I saw it.                                    frypan_fire_md_wht.gif

I thought it was terrible. I never wanted to eat insects again.

My Mom understood me. But other people did not...

I love my Mom very much  and I was very much afraid to tell her what I thought about her restaurant. I knew she was happy about her it and I did not want to hurt her. It took me tow years to become brave enough and tell loudly what I felt. I spoke to my Mom and she understood me. But other people did not. They thought I was a small naughty boy, complaining about nothing. That's why I decided to start fighting.  But I was afraid.

I was afraid of darkness and spiders...

This is my Dad. When he was young he was a fighter pilot. He flew F-15 when he was young. Dad was brave. I was always afraid of everything when I was in the kidergarden. I was afraid of dogs. I was afraid of old ladies and of young ladies as well if they had too much makeup on their faces. I was afraid of trains. I was afraid of frogs. I was afraid of my own shadow. But most of all I was afraid of DARKNESS. Dad taught me how to be not afraid.

I was carrying more than 200 worms and flies on my head.

On a nice May day I came out to the Red Square a and started my first demonstration. I was dressed in a white costume, which was designed by my brother John. I was carrying more than 200 worms and flies on my head covered by a transparent bell-glass from an antique clock which I borrowed from my grandmother. I bought all the insects in the Fish Market in Moscow. Fishermen were ready to buy them for fishing on the weekend straight from Reds Square I went to Rossini restaurant which is considered to be the most expensive in Moscow. A small plate of food there costs nearly 1000 dollars. That night there were very many bankers, politicians and movie stars eating at Rossin
