This piece is currently in progress. You can see in the image to the lower left that it only has one leg as of now. My intention is to have it walk around a room and hum to itself (sample sound to the left).

Much like the Brocha and Wernicke sculpture, this piece follows a theme of endowing an object with life, or a least the illusion of life. It has the ability to walk and therefore discover its environment. It will use an ultrasonic range finder to see where walls and obstructions are and avoid them. But it is not fully capable of free movement. It is in a transitional stage as it is reliant on a carriage to stand up much like babies practice walking in a baby walker or children learn to ride a bicycle using training wheels. It also is incapable of manipulating its envirnment because it has no arms or hands, but it can think about it as it hums a little tune.

Untitled (as of yet), aluminum, mechanical components, servomotors, 33"x45"x14", 2001. Unfinished.
Sound 311k
