(Not) Well Guarded Secrets

This page now contains all of the updates for the year 2000 and 2001 (Back through when I started doing them almost two years ago). I moved them here since most of this is proverbial "old news" plus they were starting to take up a lot of room on the main page. I don't know if anyone will ever look here, but by gum, this is where they'll be. What the hell does "by gum" mean anyway? BY DOUBLEMINT! Maybe it's really "Buy gum" and it's just a clever way of gum companies of subliminally getting people to buy gum through some vernacular wordage...think about it...

The 2001 Updates

August 14th, 2001: From The Wire #15 available, along with 2 new comic reviews, all at wonderful PopImage. Love that place. School starts back up soon, so expect more frequent updates then.

August 6th, 2001: From The Wire #14 is now up here, and 15 should be up within the next day or two at PopImage. I've also decided to post the latest update info at the top of the page to make things easier and faster for readers. Remember when I promised way back that I'd get someone to clean up this webpage and make it look pretty? It never happened (Obviously). But I think it might happen for real in a few weeks. We'll see. Music recommendation of the moment is emo rockers Jimmy Eat World's amazing album "Clarity." And go see Made! It's boss, and money, and a hundred other good adjectives. A damn fine summer movie that only cost $5 million.

July 31st, 2001: 2 new pictures up, courtesy of UUCinemas webpage (Vist it HERE. Should be some new content up real soon as well. Musical recommendation of the moment is the brand-new Cake album Comfort Eagle. I want a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket.

July 18th, 2001: At PopImage's New News Page you can read my report from the Big Apple Con 2001, as well as see a picture of me with a cool guy and independent comic creator Sal Cipriano. And for the David Gray fans out there, he's got a new cd, sorta. It's a compilation of his early EPs, featuring Wisdom, The Light (different cut than on the Flesh cd), and L's Song. It's kind of a very rudimentary greatest hits, but it's a nice cd.

July 12th, 2001: The Online Column section is updated with this week's new From The Wire and comic review. Happy reading all.

July 10th, 2001: A new essay up in the "Read Matt's Stuff!" section, a side-by-side review of The Player and Shallow Grave. Why those two together? Cause I rented them at the same trip to Blockbuster and had some stuff I wanted to get off my chest, like this oddly comforting WonderBra. Anywho, the result is a long, rambling essay that is probably even less coherent than my impression of Alfred Hitchcock impressonating Scott Stapp from Creed. But you'll read it anyway, because you have nothing better to do, and because I pay you in Milk Duds.

July 2nd, 2001: Just a hale and hearty hallo from New Jersey. Nothing new on the page currently, but FTW should be updated by midweek. I've seen The Fast and The Furious (Hilarious bad) and Tomb Raider (Painfully bad) in the last week. Musically, I'm currently digging on The Clash and the new Travis album, "The Invisible Band." Also, I'll be attending the Big Apple Con this upcoming Saturday. If you see me there (You'll recognize me cause I'll be wearing those same swim rings as the picture up top) feel free to say hi. But please, no stalkers. I've already got 4, and it's getting to be quite a hassle.

June 22nd, 2001: The From The Wire section is now updated with 2 more columns added, bringing the total to 13 so far. Rereading what we've done so far, there is some stuff I like, and some stuff i don't. But I am pleased to see that I like more and more of the recent stuff, so I am confident that we are getting better. The inevitable fall from grace is coming soon, I'm sure. And I am happy to report my life is complete. Tonight, at a bookstore in NYC, I met and took a picture with Bruce Campbell. WOO! Rest assured as soon as it is developed (pray for me that it comes out) I will post it here.

June 13th, 2001: New GBU at The Mad Review, featuring Fatty Drives The Bus, American Psycho, and Commando. Link HERE. And last month's column is already archived on this site. Yes, I am all that and a bag of Baked Lays.

June 10th, 2001: Another new section of Online Columns, this one a listing of all my full length comic reviews at PopImage. I'm pretty sure I found all of them up to the present, but there'll be more coming once they get posted. I know they have at least 3 completed ones that aren't available for mass consumption yet. Also, the From The Wire archive is now up to date as of this week. Saw Evolution, liked it but didn't love it. I don't really have a new musical suggestion for right now, but I definitely think you should check out the new Travis cd, entitled "The Invisible Band" when it comes out this Tuesday. You can bet your sweet, sweet ass that I'll be at the store the first day.

June 8th, 2001: The Column Section has been completely overhauled. Now called "The Online Column Archives" (formerly The Reactor Archives), it now includes links to From The Wire columns and the Mad Review GBUs. The From The Wire part isn't up-to-date, but a few of them are MIA at the site for the moment, so it'll have to wait a few days. Also, over at PopImage, you can read the latest From The Wire, numero diez for us. And later in the week I'll have two reviews in a HUGE overlook of one of DC's big programs last year. So keep on checking back, just cause it's nice outside now doesn't mean I spend any time away from my precious Internet connection.

May 29th, 2001: A brand new From The Wire is up at PopImage, our ninth if you are keeping track of such things. This one has probably the most material from me since the very first one way back at the start of the year. Also over on PI, I've got contributions to some brief comic reviews, and a full length review as well. Must...keep...writing!

May 23rd, 2001: Hey gang. Matt is back, but not in black. Been a while since I've updated the page, and I really don't have anything new on here, but I thought I'd say hi. Finals are over, school is over, so I'm back at home (After walking away from the semester basically unscathed with a 3.8 GPA). My film came out...well it came out. No, I am being a little hard on myself, I will say that it turned out better than I expected it to, and it was downright humorous. I think. Over at PopImage, we're up to eight installments of From The Wire, and the Mad Review should be posting the second GBU since we returned in another week or two. Plus I've been writing some other stuff that maybe hopefully will some day see print, and it appears that the story I wrote (That you can see some sketches by my buddy Chris for) will be published in the future, so let's all keep our fingers crossed on that one. Speaking of Chris Moreno, if you see him, congradulate him on his first professional comic art gig. Way to go Chris! And remember what the famous coach Tom Landry said, "Mess this up, and we never speak again." No pressure though. Musical recommendation is the brand new Weezer album, self-titled or referred to as "The Green Album." Til we speak again, make a glorious day.

May 4th, 2001: A new essay is posted under "Read Matt's Stuff!" this one about the flick Die Hard as a western. Got an A in my Film and Culture class, so I couldn't have been too off base. Music recommendation of the day is Daft Punk's new cheesy techno pop album "Discovery."

May 2nd, 2001: Lots of updates this week...anyway, wanted to just let you all know that there is a TON of new stuff online today by me. At PopImage, I have a review of Ultimate Spider-Man, and a new From The Wire, that is getting some nice response from people online. And over on the old Mad Review, a NEW GBU for the first time in 4 months! It's back BABY! Very exciting. Happy reading all.

May 1st, 2001: Up in the picture section, there is a whole bunch of new pics, featuring me and Pete, or as we are known in band form Melish. The little tour the pics take you on is purely courtesy of photo majorette (I think it has something to do with waving a baton at geeks in uniforms) Heather, to whom I am eternally grateful for providing me much needed distraction during the finals crush. It's 4:30 and 3 out of the 4 people in my room are still awake working on stuff.

April 30th, 2001: Added another mix to my musical section (This time it's a cd not a tape, it's the digital revolution!). The finals crunch is on and I am bearing down and freaking out. An interesting item of note, Pete Yorn, who I've recommended on this page, as it turns out, is from New Jersey, and graduated from SU. Interesting...my latest cd buy was a Pure 80s compilation cd. 20 groan inducing hits, that really IMO, make the best party music around.

The site is now over 900 hits and more all time. I think there was something like 30 hits (from people other than me) just in the last 2 days. That's rules, I say keep 'em coming. As you know I am a self-admitted counter junkie. I only put new stuff on this site to get hits...in other Matt news I saw the rough cut from my student film today, and it got a great reaction from my film class. That was very theraputic, I've put a lot of time and effort into that thing. And amazingly, it looks good, and the jokes seem to work so far. Hopefully the final version will be even better. I have about 4 different versions of the script on my computer, I am thinking about posting them all on the site so you can watch the evolution of the project. If I could put the actual movie on here when it was done that'd be fabulous, but I think that's just about impossible. I mean, look at this site. I have trouble making horizontal lines for crying out loud.

April 23rd, 2001: New page is up, where you can see the track list from my Junior year mix tape. It's a good one. Check it out right HERE.

April 22nd, 2001: Nothing new to report, but I wanted to mention that The Mad Review has finally gotten back on their feet, with a brand new server. It's being updated regularly again, and I just sent them 2 brand new GBUs to use. I will let you know when they go up. I'm also in the process of making a big mix tape cataloguing my musical experience from this year (An idea I got from Cameron Crowe). I think once its done I'll be posting a track listing here to share.

April 19th, 2001: Edited the text at the top of the page, since it's outdated by about six months. All better now. I want to add some new film papers, but I haven't had the time to convert them to HTML. So when I get around to it. Also, congradulations are in order for me, I will soon be President of University Union, the largest student organization on campus. To read about them, check HERE. And for you From The Wire fans, we're up to 6 weekly installments available over at PopImage. Music recommendation for the week is a band named Swag. Their debut cd, Catch-All, is some catchy pop that combines the songwriting style of the Beatles with guitar work from the Byrds. Excellent stuff. Recent buys also include "Flesh" by David Gray, and "Best...I" by The Smiths. And if I have my way this summer, I'll be seeing James Taylor, Coldplay, Grandaddy, Travis, and Dido all within the span of one week. I've already got the tickets for 2 of the 3 concerts (Yes some of them are playing together).

April 4th, 2001: Added a new picture to the Postcards section, found it lying around on a old UU page from last year. I figure, why not you know? I got space to burn. Also added a little addendum to the The Eyes Have It section, denoting that the script posted here got an A in my class. Pretty keen. I don't know if I'd give it an A myself, but it was fun to write, and it came out pretty well. It also looks like I'll be UU President next year. That should be intersting. Time to bring that place down from the inside-I mean...oh crap. Gotta remember to not type everything I think. Man my butt itches, where did I put that topical cream...oh crap. Musical recommendation of the week is "No Angel" by Dido or "musicforthemorningafter" by Pete Yorn.

March 31st, 2001: Another BRAND NEW "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" posted here. It's my "Best of 2000" column. Yes I realize it's no longer timely. That's why I'm posting here on my webpage for the first time anywhere. Things seem to be progressing to get GBU back on a webpage, but at a snail's pace.

March 22nd, 2001: There is another From The Wire up at PopImage, bringing our weekly total to four. Also, added a brand new sketch to the pic section. That Chris Moreno is one talented guy. Good thing he's an ally not an enemy.

March 17th, 2001: Man, what a great spring break I've had. Nothing but...uh nothing. You really have to love getting stomach virus just as break hits so you can do absolutely nothing the whole time. I hate my life sometimes.

There's a BRAND NEW GOOD, BAD, AND UGLY available only on this page. Unfortunately, The Mad Review was taken away from its owner (When he lost his job, he lost his server) so for the time being I'll be posting the occassional movie review right here! YOU LUCKY BASTARDS! Week 3 of From The Wire is also up right now, and week 4 should be posted on Tuesday, which is, they tell me, going to be the regular weekly update day from now on. Also, a hale and hearty shoutout to my current and future roomate "Poor" Pete Thomas, who's done a beaut of a job on the UUCinemas webpage even though he knows as much HTML as an unfertilized ovum. Go there and check it out. Funny stuff. A little too funny. He might have to be eliminated.

March 5th, 2001: New quotes added to the top of the page, some by me, some real, some suggested by others, with fabricated sources(Thanks to those who donated) for the purposes of humor. Or at least attempted humor. There is also a brand new From The Wire up right now, featuring a drunken Phantom, an overprotective John Byrne, and a lot more. Enjoy, and remember to operate plenty of heavy machinery after reading.

February 25th, 2001: There's a brand new From The Wire up, the first weekly installment. And yes, we really do intend to keep that schedule. It's written by myself and a online writer who I've become acquaintances with named Chris Ryall. Chris' very funny, and extremely disturbed. We get along well. This week Aliens destroy Archie and the Riverdale gang, the "incredible" Hulk is cut down to size, and a lot more, so go check it out.

Also, I have a review of the X-Presidents graphic novel by Robert (Triumph, The Insult Comic Dog) Smigel up there. I've also updated my Links Page for the first time in a few months so check that out. And last (I know, lots of stuff today) I though I'd point your attention to THIS PAGE, the list of my comments on IMDb. IMDb stands for Internet Movie Database, maybe the best site for movie info on the web (Hell it's probably the best movie info resources in the entire world). Anyway, you can comment on any movie on the database, and I've slowly built a hefty sack of 'em. I'm over 55 reviews there now, so go read up. Some you'll recognize as the rough draft to a lot of GBU reviews. Others haven't been featured anywhere else, so it's quite a fun read. Enjoy.

February 19th, 2001: Not much new. Things have settled down a little bit at least now that the huge script is done. My dear Aunt wishes to receive credit for the infamous pool picture at the top of the page, so yes, I did not take that picture as I have told many of you including the New York Times. I apologize for my lies, but really, do you blame me? Anyway, thank you Aunt Helene. As for my readers itching for a new installment of GBU, hold your horses. There are a couple in the bag, waiting and ready, but there are technical problems at The Mad Review. But I smell exciting news on the horizon. That and the tuna noodle casserole I'm cooking, but I think it's more of the exciting news, cause why would tuna noodle casserole smell like week old dog food and my roommate's feet? See, doesn't make any sense that way. Music recommendation this time: self-titled debut cd from the band Paloalto. Kind of Radiohead, kind of U2, very cool.

February 14th, 2001: New quote up at the top, from my boss Chris over at PopImage. This one he actually said (in an e-mail responding to a piece I wrote for him the same day he asked for it) but it's so funny it deserves inclusion up there. And also, cool news, that script that I just added, The Eyes Have It, has been selected by one of the other groups in my production class. They are going to produce it as their final project. Extremely cool news. And musicwise, I just got into the new album by PJ Harvey. I really dig it.

February 11th, 2001: All these updates were beginning to accumulate, so I decided to make a separate page of all my updates from the year 2000. They are now archived right here. There's also a link at the bottom of the current list. And I have two words for you: Unreal Tournament.

February 9th, 2001: Brand new script entitled "The Eyes Have it" is posted with the rest of my school assignments. This one I like a lot, but you should be warned that it does contain some adult language. So parents, now might be the right time to talk about your kids regarding the word "kooaldkeu." You'll thank me later.

February 6th, 2001: Added a quote from Pete to the top, but really this is just to mention that this page has hit 500 hits. That makes me happy. Come back and reload often to make me more happy. And right now I am listening to a ton, A TON of Teenage Fanclub cds. If you can get their newest, Howdy! (Not released in the US) then do it, cause it is great.

February 2nd, 2001: Another addition to my school works. This one is a sample column I wrote for the student newspaper on campus. They had a call for open submissions claiming how they wanted people to stir things up. I have some strong opinions on the student government here, so I wrote this, and they rejected it in favor of people who can complain about how their dorm only lets them sign in three people a night. Sigh. Still, it's a good piece, so I share it with you.

January 19th, 2001: Added a link up top to my BRAND NEW COLUMN From The Wire!. It's parody news from the world of comic books. I've been working hard on this (When I have the time to) and I think it turned out pretty damn well. For music, lately I'm listening to a lot of Weezer. Why didn't I listen to them before, they are so good?

January 18th, 2001: A new addition to "Read Matt's Stuff!" a script I wrote last year, that I found in my computer. It was pretty funny, and I wanted to post more of my work, so it fit the bill. Besides I'm writing a script right now (due last semester, thank you mono) and it's good to have a little side project to do while you take breaks between scenes. So I formatted that in between the super-heroes and bad dialogue. Sigh.

January 16th, 2001: Added some "quotes" at the top of page, praising my wonderful site. A lot of sites have these, and I wish I did too, but since no one ever compliments my site, I made mine up. If you'd like to submit a quote for my site, do so HERE

January 13th, 2001: The first update of 2K1, the lamest named year ever! Just waiting for my ride back to the 'Cuse, and doing a quick little update. GBU over at The Mad Review still going strong, 4 articles are currently available for your reading pleasure. Searching Yahoo now nets you my website if you type in "Matt Singer" (Although strangely, it's the 3rd choice to pop up...and the other sites don't belong to people named Matt Singer). Almost up to 400 hits on this website it only about 3 months of being online. The other site had a little over 600 hits in about 2 and a half years! I'm so proud. I've even been getting hits from weird places like London, where someone e-mailed me to compliment me on my musical taste. And also, big announcement coming soon about a new column I'll be working on for one of my favorite online magazines. Hope everyone has a good New Year and remember, when eating cabbage, don't look to your left.

The 2000 Updates

December 22nd, 2000: No that's not a typo, I'm updating this page twice in one day...nothing added, just a cool little note to share. I submitted my page to Yahoo, and it was accepted, so now if you do a search on Yahoo for "Matt Singer" you should get my website. I'm already in the directory, they said that searching for my site should work within the next day or two. Pretty cool! This is last update for this page as a teenager. Bizarre.

December 22nd, 2000: A fourth GBU is available on the website. I had a feeling there was one more unarchived GBU somewhere, and I found it on the home computer. Thank you winter break! Anyway, the REACTOR archive is now complete, every last damn piece of writing I made for that magazine. At this point I haven't decided whether to start putting Mad Review installments up here. But for those who want to read those too, they are all archived on the main GBU page at the wonderful Mad Review.

December 17th, 2000: I'm leaving school for winter break shortly, so I did some winter cleaning as it was, and fixed up my intro text at the top of the page. It was definitely getting too long and bits and pieces were all disjointed, no good. So now it's a far more cohesive masterpiece, worthy of both writer and audience. Again, if anyone's counting, less than a week to the ol' 2-0 birthday (Truly frightening, I know). And for a music recommendation may I suggest "Parachutes" by the British band Coldplay. A really pretty album filled with a great mix of songs about just about every emotion you can think of. See you in January y'all.

December 13th, 2000: Just a quick mention to say that there is a BRAND NEW GBU up at The Mad Review. Featured this month, Take The Money and Run, Coyote Ugly, and Simon Sez. And there's already another installment done for next month. I am on the ball ladies and germs. :) Enjoy!

December 10th, 2000: As you can tell, there's a new picture at the top of the page. All I have to say is don't ever let someone get you drunk, give you pool toys, sunglasses and a photo op. I can't stress it enough.

December 2nd, 2000: Added new picture section to the main Page O' Stuff. Right now there are 6 oldies but goodies, and should I get more pictures, I'll be adding them as well. Oh and coincidentally, the Me And The Wad pic is on Amihotornot.com at this address. Vote for me!

November 28th, 2000: New old (?) "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" posted on the website just above this, bringing the total to 3 on this page. And there should be a fresh one on The Mad Review in a few weeks, plus I've already got ANOTHER written after that, almost ready to be sent in. I tell ya folks, it's not easy being this good.

November 27th, 2000: New picture up at the top there, me and the Petester chillin at the movies on campus. It's a smidge blurry, but I dig the hell out of the shot. How cool do I look? And modest too...and by the way, no one share drinks with me, I have mono! Sucks to be me.

November 14th, 2000: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has been updated!! Yay! Hit up the main page at this address, and you should see my link up there if you hurry. Also, I finally got my own link on the side menu, listed second under columns. Plus, I've got a budding archive on the site for all my old issues. All in all things are good again over at The Mad Review, and I'm very happy, so go support those wacky guys. See you jokers soon.

November 6th, 2000: Sadly, nothing new to report. This is pretty much me saying there's nothing to say. So far The Mad Review has only been updated once, and I'm working on getting more up there, since I've finished 2 since then, and have half a dozen almost finished. Also, in some minor news, I have 2 reviews posted in the new issue of PopImage, and I'm particularly proud of the one on The Authority cause I think it's the first review I've done that's matched my movie reviews in terms of a mix of both humor and actual information. Work is still in progress on my new site, but it's going to take a while. This is what you get for finding the best, but refusing to pay. Oh well...eventually it will be done and I'll finally have a website as beautiful as my forearms. Lastly, my music recommedation for you all is a lil band called Deathray. Their first self-titled album is available all over this great nation of ours, and it's wonderful power pop mixed with some groovy harmony. And for those of you that it might mean anything to, the band's made up of several members of the old band Cake. Dig in.

September 29th, 2000: Fixed up my intro text to mention my new home at The Mad Review. Also, i fixed up my links, got rid of some old crappy ones, added some new less-crappy ones. So check those out. And for a new music recommendation how bout "This is Easy" by Marsall Crenshaw, an obscure pop star who made great tunes all through the eighties in the style of Buddy Holly and others. Great cd with a whopping 22 tracks.

September 27th, 2000: Found an old column I originally wrote for I Need Attention, but was given its own home on Reactor because it wasn't of the right topic. You can find it above under INA as "The 1999 Academy Awards." Also, a friend of mine from back home who is far more graphically inclined than me as agreed to help me redesign my site. I have no idea when it'll be done, but someday this site's visuals will match the quality of its readers. And yes I fell that kissing your ass will get you coming back more. You sure those shoes don't need to be shined?

September 13th, 2000: Welcome, this is the first update for Matt's Page of Stuff on its new home, Geocities. For devotees of my page, it's basically the same exact page as before with some minor cosmetic alterations. But I'm thinking about drastic overhauls. It'll depend on whether my roommate feels like helping me with HTML. We shall see. Until then things shall remain basically the same. To newcomers, welcome! Please look around, and give me any and all feedback you might have. I love hearing from people about my material. I'm going to rewrite my intro at the top within the next couple of days so stop by often.

September 8th, 2000: Gone are two more sounds, and in their place I updated my Reactor archive. All my published INAs are up, and I added one more GBU (Those take longer to do so I will put them up slowly). GBU is not officially back yet, but I have found a new home! More details when its up. And I'm going to be interviewed in a real newspaper about this hunkajunk of a website! I'll be sure to let you know about it when it happens!

August 28th, 2000: Updated the text at the top of the page, as I am now back at school! I'm still working on getting all my previous columns posted here on the website, but the matter of website space is blocking me (SU only allows a certain amount on my account). So I might shuffle things around, or I might just get a new website. I'm still debating.

May 2nd, 2000: Fueled by the type of insomnia that only comes on when you're studying till 5:00 AM, I started my Reactor archives, so far just one of each, but give it time baby, give it time. Why is it that you can't sleep when you're the most tired? I hate that...the only upside? A bizarre ability to write well during the wee small hours of the morning, acquired this year thanks to insomnia. Most of my Reactor material is written between midnight at 3 AM. At some point the brain just seems to lose all control over my thoughts and they tend to spew out, at which point I scramble to the computer and vomit them out onto the keyboard. The result? Ramblings like this...

May 1st, 2000: Added a link at the top to Kevin's new webcam, got rid of a few sounds, and closed out the UUCinemas section. Don't expect this much activity once summer hits. Not because I'll be busy, but because I lose my precious Ethernet, and without it, all is lost. The one thing I will miss about the dorm room, although the unbearable heat and stale air are fun too.

April 29th, 2000: Not much to report, other than the year is almost over! Halfway done with college...and I've yet to wake up and not remember where I am. I have to try harder...I'm also running out of space on my website, so I'm thinking of getting rid of my sounds, and replacing them with an archive of my Reactor material, which, as of now, is only showing the latest piece I've made. Any thoughts from y'all?

April 21st, 2000: Went to the mall today. Saw The Skulls. A dreadfully funny movie. Rest assured I'll be flogging in my own way in a future "G,B,U" column. Right now I'm in a bit of a bizarre musical period; all I listen to is obscure English rock and pop. For the best money can buy, hunt down David Gray's White Ladder and Supergrass' new self-titled album. Fun stuff. School's almost over and I'm almost dead. Symmetry in the details...
