Go to a search engine (Yahoo!, Google, or MSN) and search for more information about this book's banning. Who banned it? When was it banned? Why was it banned? Is it still banned? |
| You're doing great! You're almost ready to help me change the world. However, I want to test your evaluative skills. You know that books have been banned, but have they been banned within reason? Read this article from USA Today. Choose one of the books it mentions, click on the link in the article, and read the excerpt. Since your world allows you to think for yourself, you have the ability to decide whether people were wrong to ban these books. Write a short essay evaluating whether or not you feel the banning of this book was justified (remember to cite information from the Bill of Rights and/or pieces from the excerpt to "back up" your ideas). |

In my world, the future, the government controls the thoughts and actions of all citizens. You, on the other hand, have the freedom to voice your opinions- allow your voice to be heard!!! You need to contact your government to make sure they know your opinions on book banning. Find either your US Senator, US Representative, or local senator or represenative. |

| If you think book banning is wrong and an infringement of your rights, write him/her a letter urging them to protect your rights and fight book banning. If you think book banning is justified and the government is trying to protect you, write him/her a litter stating why you agree with the banning of books. This site will help you with the format of your letter. You should talk with your teacher about sending your letter to your senator/representative! Having your voice heard could really help prevent the government from brainwashing the future! |
