Part 17

Chris smiled as he practically bounced down the stairs. Shawn had actually woken up before he had, so he hadn't been able to keep to the letter on his promise, but he was sure Shawn hadn't minded the alternative. Instead of waking his lover up, Shawn had woken him up with a gentle kiss. Chris was kind of disappointed that he couldn't wake Shawn up in a spectacular fashion, but he'd quickly formed an alternate plan. After kissing Shawn good morning, he'd announced that he was absolutely famished. Shawn had seemed a bit disappointed by this considering he was quite obviously aroused at that point in time, but had agreed when Chris suggested a quick shower so they could go get breakfast.

He'd lingered in the bedroom just long enough that Shawn was already washing his hair and before Shawn knew what hit him, Chris was on his knees in front of him eagerly attending to his morning erection. After he'd brought Shawn to orgasm, he'd quickly rinsed off and left his weak-kneed lover to finish his shower. He'd finished dressing by the time Shawn walked out of the bathroom and with a quick kiss on the bemused man's cheek he'd told him he'd meet him downstairs in the kitchen for breakfast.

Chris licked his lips lightly as he hit the bottom step. He could still taste a trace of Shawn's release on his lips. What a great way to start the morning. As he strolled into the kitchen he was faced with a bleary eyed Sean leaning up against the counter waiting for coffee to finish brewing. He raised an eyebrow in the small brunette's direction. He couldn't remember ever seeing Sean without his bouncy persona in place. "Long night?"

Sean managed a sleepy grin. "Morning, tiger." Chris shot a glare at him, which elicited a laugh from the brunette. "You could say that. Kev and Scott heard what was going on with you and Shawn in his room and got all fired up again. Needless to say...I didn't get much sleep."

Chris was torn between embarrassment, both over Sean's use of his nickname and the fact that he and Shawn had been heard, and laughter over Sean's plight. With just a hint of pink in his cheeks he managed a smirk. "I'm sure you weren't complaining at the time. I've got a deal for you... you don't call me tiger and I won't call you Kid."

Shawn grimaced over the mention of the Kliq nickname he seemed to be stuck with. "Ugh. I can't make any promises, because that nickname is just so cute." His grin now firmly in place, Sean grabbed two coffee cups and started to fill them. "But I'll avoid being called Kid whenever possible so I'll give it my best shot. I suppose that means we've got a deal."

"What's all this about a deal? You guys plotting already this morning?" Kevin's sleepy voice rang loud through the kitchen. He walked up next to Chris and smiled. Before Chris could grab his coffee off the counter and take a sip, Kevin threaded a hand in his hair and whispered, "Good mornin', tiger." Chris's groan was cut off by Kevin's mouth covering his own with a quick yet deep kiss. "Seems as if someone got a head start on breakfast this morning," Kevin said as he licked his lips and smiled.

Chris fought his embarrassment yet again and somehow managed not to blush any more than he already was. In fact, without skipping a beat, he managed to reply to Kevin's teasing comment. "Protein shake...a very tasty one. Best way to start the day," he said with a big grin. He heard a burst of laughter from the doorway and turned to see Scott and Shawn standing there.

"Is that what they call it now, Chico? Better watch out. It looks as if Kev is considering getting a protein shake of his own." Scott's comment startled Chris into looking up at Kevin who was leering at him rather comically and wiggling his eyebrows.

Chris couldn't help but laugh. He looked in Shawn's direction hoping for a rescue, but when he turned he found that Scott was standing right next to him. "Good morning..." Chris almost sighed in relief that Scott hadn't used his new nickname as well, but the other man kissed him quickly before it could escape his mouth. As Scott pulled back he smirked at the blond and whispered, "tiger." Chris couldn't stifle his groan, but he didn't manage not to blush yet again. He was thankful for it too, since it seemed he would now be stuck with hearing the nickname as often as the men could find reason to use it.

Shawn, who was standing beside Scott, laughed quietly and smiled. It seemed as if Chris was getting better at controlling his blushing. He'd need to be able to do that with these guys around. They were rarely serious and teasing was commonplace. Shawn elbowed his way in next to Chris and smiled at his lover. "Good morning...sweetheart." He also kissed Chris good morning, wrapping him up tightly in his arms. He leaned in close and whispered in Chris's ear, "you may have gotten the drop on me this morning, sweetheart, but don't expect it to happen every morning because I plan on doing it to you just as often."

Chris gasped quietly as Shawn's heated breath wafted over his neck. With a slight shiver at the arousing sensation, he smiled at the man he loved. "Oh I plan on letting you make it up to me very soon." He smirked as a thought hit him. "You know... maybe I should open up a booth or something. If I started charging for all these kisses, I'd be filthy rich in no time." The men all laughed as they headed in different directions to begin preparing breakfast. Chris took a quick sip of his coffee before heading towards the refrigerator. Maybe he could whip up some omelets or something. He'd been living on his own long enough that he had been forced to learn to cook. Turned out he was really rather good at it.

As he set the ingredients he'd found on the counter, he turned to find Sean standing next to him with a huge smile on his face. "Since I didn't get my kiss yet this morning, let me be your first customer." Sean wrapped his arms around Chris and gave him a rather deep and searching kiss. As he pulled away, Chris felt Sean's fingers slip into the top of his pants, but they were withdrawn quickly. When he looked down, there was a dollar bill sticking out of the waistband.

Chris's mouth dropped open. There was no way he could fight the blush, which quickly stained his cheeks, especially when the other men started laughing. Chris reached out and swatted his hand at Sean's head. "Brat! I said a kissing booth, not a strip club." Sean bounced across the room towards Scott and Kevin before Chris could take another swipe at him, and Chris settled into making the omelets.

Between the five of them, breakfast was thrown together rather quickly and they all sat down to eat. While tossing around trivialities, Chris thought that it was kind of weird to be sitting here so calmly and eating after what had happened in this room the night before right on this table. He blushed slightly over his own memories. "Pleasant thoughts there, sweetheart?" Shawn's voice drew him back to the conversations at hand.

"Very pleasant actually." He winked at his lover and was just about to make another comment on it when he heard Kevin say his name.

"Hey Chris? I think that maybe when were done eating, we should finish up a few topics from last night. I'm kind of interested in hearing about these lies that Hunter has been telling his friends. I'm sure the others here would be interested as well." Kevin arched his brow as if to ask the others' opinions.

Chris knew he'd opened that door himself when he'd made the comment to Kevin last night, but he wasn't looking forward to this discussion. He grimaced and looked at Sean sympathetically. Sean had tensed up as soon as Kevin had broached the subject. He smiled wanly at Chris in response. The others at the table hadn't missed the by-play between the two men. Each had pretty much the same thought...that Chris wouldn't be the only one making explanations.

Part 18

After they had cleaned up the kitchen, Kevin had more or less herded them all into the den. They sat in the same seats they had the night before... with Kevin and Scott on one couch, Sean in a chair, and Chris and Shawn on the other couch. Chris was hoping this discussion wouldn't be as awful as the one they'd last night, but he had a feeling it was actually going to be much worse by the time all was said and done. Chris held onto Shawn's hand tightly and waited for Kevin to start the conversation.

"So... I'm assuming when you mentioned Hunter lying to his friends you were talking about us. So why don't you fill us in on what you think he's lied to us about?" Kevin looked as if he was relaxed, but Chris could sense the underlying tension from the big man.

"I have no problems doing that Kevin, but I'm going to get something out of the way first. Some of the things I know aren't first hand knowledge, but... the two people that I've heard some of this stuff from are people that I know would not lie to me. Both of them have at one point or another saved my life and I would trust them both with it even now. I'd rather not bring their names into it unless necessary, but I wanted to clarify that they are credible sources." He'd known he had startled Shawn with the comment about two people having saved his life when Shawn had clamped down on his hand with an iron grip . He was sure that at some point Shawn would ask him about it as well. He already knew about one of them, but he had to be curious about the other. That was a discussion for another time though.

Kevin nodded in Chris's direction. He'd wait to hear the facts and then decide whether or not to question Chris's sources. "I can't guarantee I won't ask for names later, but for right now I'll accept them as credible. So fill us in."

Chris looked at Sean, Kevin, and Scott trying to decide where to start. Scott would probably be the least likely to explode right away, so he decided to start with him first. "I know that when Scott was released from the Fed that it was rumored to be because he started drinking again." Chris was well aware of the slight stiffening of Kevin's posture, but continued anyway. "I also know that isn't the official reason that Vince released him. He was released because he failed the random drug testing and tested positive for Meth."

"How the hell do you know that? Vince swore that it would be kept quiet." Kevin's angered outburst simply confirmed what Chris already knew. Chris had a feeling they were going to like the rest of what he had to tell them even less, but there was no help for it...they wanted to know.

"Some people talk freely when they think they're alone. That isn't always the case though. I'm sure you've accidently heard things you weren't supposed to while wandering around an arena. I'm sure you also know that you aren't the only one that happens to." Kevin nodded slightly in acknowledgement and Chris continued.

"One of the people I mentioned happened to hear a conversation between Vince and Hunter one night. He'd gone to Hunter's locker room because he'd found out they were working a match together the next week and he wanted to toss around ideas for a few spots. The door was open far enough that he could see Hunter standing there. As he went to knock on the door he heard Vince's voice and realized that Hunter wasn't alone. He probably should have left, but considering he'd just heard Vince say that he couldn't fire someone until he had proof he decided to stick around and see if he could figure out who they were talking about. The same I'm sure any of us would have."

"He watched Hunter turn around and grab something out of his bag. When he turned around he had a plastic bag full of powder in his hands and handed it to Vince. He told Vince that he'd found it in his bag over the weekend and that he knew that the guy was using Meth. He told Vince he didn't want to turn the guy in but he was a danger for other people to work with. My friend still had no clue who they were talking about. Hunter suggested that Vince do a spot check for drug use when the person showed up for tapings the next week. Vince agreed to it. At that point my friend left, deciding to talk to Hunter later. He told me about the conversation later that night and we spent a couple of hours trying to figure out who on the Smackdown roster might be using. No one likes having a match with someone who's hopped up, especially when you don't know that they are. We couldn't come up with a single person who had been acting any different then usual. By Tuesday it had made the rounds that Scott was let go. It didn't really make sense that Hunter would turn Scott in, but since you guys partied together on the weekends it made sense that Hunter would have access to his bags."

"It was still hard to believe, until my friend happened to talk to Hunter that week before their match. He told Hunter he was sorry to see Scott go. Hunter's reaction was... weird. He shrugged his shoulders and said that maybe Scott would learn to stay out of things that weren't good for him. Hunter didn't seem concerned in the least that one of his supposed closest friends had been fired."

"So what you're trying to say here... is that Hunter set him up. That he was the anonymous source of the proof that Vince had?" Kevin's voice was extremely quiet. Chris wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. Kevin always seemed the calmest just before an explosion. "But the test came back positive. Vince wouldn't lie about that. So, what? Hunter paid off the doctor to fix the results?"

"No." Scott's reply was barely a whisper.

"What do you mean no, Scott? Someone had to have fixed the results..." Kevin's loud roar gave testament to his growing anger.

"I meant no... the results weren't fixed. I went to the hospital after Vince asked me to leave the building. I had them run a second test. That one came back positive as well."

"And you are just now telling me this? How the hell is that possible, Scott? You don't fucking do Meth."

"No, Kevin. No, I don't. The test didn't lie though. I had Meth in my system. So how the fuck do you think it got there?" Scott's voice was still extremely quiet, the only clue to his upset was the paleness of his skin.

"He fucking drugged you? No. Why the hell would he do that? How the hell would we not have noticed you being drugged?" Kevin was up now, pacing around the room.

Shawn hadn't said a word so far and Chris was worried about how he was taking this news. Sean on the other hand was fidgeting nervously in his chair. Chris knew that this was actually just the tip of the iceberg and felt sorry that Sean was going to be hurt by the rest of what he had to tell them. It couldn't be avoided. He just had to hope for the best.

"Think about it Kevin. I had endless energy that weekend. Sunday night I was bouncing around worse than Kid. Monday morning it took you three hours to get me out of bed. Until we got the results of the test, I thought we'd just done too much partying over the weekend. Afterwards I figured it must have happened when we were out at one of the clubs. That someone put it in my food or in something I drank. I didn't want you to worry about me, so I never told you about the second test. I didn't want you to think I did it on purpose. Maybe I should have told you."

"Maybe? You fucking well should have Scott and you know it. It still doesn't explain why he would do it. What possible reason could he have for wanting you gone?"

"Shawn." Three people in the room turned to look at Sean when he spoke. The eerie laugh that followed sent shudders down Chris' spine. Maybe Sean already knew everything that Chris was going to say. "It was always about Shawn. He knew that Scott would stand in his way when Shawn came back. So he took him out of the equation ahead of time."

"What the hell are you talking about Sean? Stand in the way of what?" Kevin froze. His face was pure red and it was obvious he was hanging on to his temper by a mere thread. Scott seemed puzzled by what Sean had said. He sat on the couch quietly with a questioning look on his face. Shawn's posture was stiff and he looked almost sick, his skin obviously pale.

"He would stand in the way of Hunter getting Shawn to come back to him. It's what he always wanted. Scott would have told Shawn that it was a bad idea." Sean smirked slightly in Scott's direction. No one else said anything because they all knew that it was the truth. Scott would have told Shawn not to take him back. "So Hunter gave him another set of problems to worry about. He sacrificed Scott for Shawn. The same way he sacrificed me for the same exact reason."

Part 19

"What did he do Sean?" The bite in Kevin's voice, though obviously not meant to be directed at Sean, made the smaller man flinch. Pulling his legs up into the chair, Sean wrapped his arms around his knees, closed his eyes and shook his head before laying it down on the top of his knees. Sean was closing himself off from the rest of them in an attempt to avoid releasing even more painful information to the rest of them.

Chris felt Shawn's hand clamp down on his own until it was almost painful. Chris knew the thought of Hunter hurting anyone for the sake of getting closer to him would be upsetting for Shawn. The fact that it had happened to men that Shawn considered closer to him than brothers had to be extremely painful for his lover to accept. If everything that Chris knew about came out, it was going to be devastating for Shawn to know that indirectly he was responsible for so much pain, but it needed to come out. Not only did Shawn, Kevin, and Scott need to know what Hunter was actually capable of, but Chris had a feeling that Sean needed to let it all out before it festered into something that could destroy his relationship with the other three men. Chris lifted Shawn's hand to his mouth and placed a comforting kiss against it. Shawn, having finally realized exactly how tightly he was holding onto Chris, loosened his grip allowing Chris to give it a reassuring squeeze.

As Chris' eyes turned back to Sean, he knew what he had to do. It probably wasn't going to be a popular decision and at least one person in the room would more than likely curse him for interfering, but he couldn't leave Sean sitting in that chair curled in on himself. Shawn was in no condition to comfort his friend while waiting for another ax to fall, Kevin was way too angry to do any good, and Scott seemed to be trying to deal with his own betrayal by Hunter. In addition, Chris knew he was more aware of what Sean was going to have to tell them than any of the others in the room. While it pissed him off royally that Hunter had gotten away with these things unnoticed, it would affect the others on a deeper level.

Chris squeezed Shawn's hand gently. Standing up, he crossed the room to the chair Sean was sitting in and kneeled down in front of it before placing one hand on Sean's arm. The brunet lifted his head and opened his eyes, looking down at Chris. Chris sucked in a deep breath at the emotions swirling in the wide brown eyes...anger, hurt, and desperation. If Sean was hurting this much just by thinking about the things Hunter had done, was it really best for him to talk about them right now or would that break him?

"Sean, you don't have to do this right now." Chris had purposely kept his voice gentle so as not to startle Sean. Sean's eyes widened in surprise. Obviously he hadn't been expecting Chris to say that.

"What? Of course he's going to do this now." It was clear that Kevin was tired of being kept in the dark, but his words still made Chris madder than hell.

"Shut up, Kevin." Chris used the same quiet tone he'd used with Sean. He knew immediately that he'd taken the wrong tact. Kevin wouldn't just let that fly, but Chris wasn't going to back down.

"Excuse me? Why don't you just keep your mouth shut Chris? This doesn't really concern you."

Chris stood up and looked at Kevin. He hoped he wouldn't upset Shawn, but Chris absolutely refused to let Kevin talk to him that way. "It doesn't concern me? Why? Just because I'm not part of your fabulous Clique? Does it concern you Kev? Because if it really concerned you, I'd think you would be a little less fucking oblivious to what's going on around you. I'll bet I know more about what's bothering Sean than anyone else in this room. That's pretty sad when you think about it. You guys are supposed to be his best friends...closer than brothers, or at least that's what you're always spouting off to anyone that will listen. Yet someone who isn't part of your precious little circle knows more about what's going on with all of you than any of you do. Maybe if you weren't so damn wrapped up in kissing Hunter's ass, you would have seen what's been going on right in front of your damn face for the last three or four years."

"Why do you think if Sean's had problems with Hunter that he hasn't come to you? I'll tell you why... because you would have defended Hunter. That's what you guys do right? Defend each other's actions no matter how wrong they might be? Why do you think I never said a word to any of you about what I knew he had done to Scott? Because anyone that came to you carrying tales about your precious golden boy would have gotten the hell beat out of them and a warning to keep their mouth shut. You defend him blindly, right or wrong. When you're really close to someone that can be a great thing, but not when that loyalty makes you blind to them stabbing you in the back. Hell, you defended him earlier when it came to what Shawn was trying to tell you. Even just now with what I told you about Scott, you still were trying to find some way to deny he was responsible. Why should Sean open himself up and tear himself apart just to give you another chance to try to explain away the things that Hunter has done?"

"I wouldn't..." Kevin's voice was at a much lower decibel this time. He looked quite uncomfortable about having to face the fact that he had been automatically trying to defend everything Hunter had done.

"Wouldn't you?" Chris' question cut off Kevin's attempt to deny what they both knew would have happened.

"Chris, stop please." Sean's quiet plea drew Chris' attention back to the brunet. Chris turned and looked down at Sean who was still huddled up in the chair. Sean was looking up at him with a sad expression. "I want...no, I need to tell them. It's way past time they knew everything, but I'm not sure I can do it all by myself. Can you...will you help me?"

Chris couldn't help but be affected by the pleading look in Sean's eyes. "Of course I will." He held one hand out to Sean and smiled when the other man grasped it with his own hand. He tugged lightly and said, "come on." Sean unfolded himself from the chair and let Chris lead him over to the couch. Chris sat beside Shawn and then pulled Sean down to sit between his legs on the cushion. Reaching down Chris grabbed one of Shawn's hands and then wrapped both arms around Sean. "Whenever you're ready Sean."

Chris watched as Kevin finally sat down next to Scott once again. Sean finally looked up and focused on Scott. "There's so much you guys don't know. I guess I'll start with the night I came back to the fed. That was the night after what was supposed to be Shawn's last match...back on March 30th, 1998..."

Part 20

"The night I came back, Hunter was acting...weird. I knew he was upset about Shawn having to retire. Since you two were still together then, it made sense that he was going to miss you being on the road with him all the time. As the night went on it seemed more like he was angry with Shawn for deciding to stay home instead of traveling with him. I tried to tell him that it would have been hell for Shawn to be around all the time when he couldn't get in the ring, but that didn't seem to matter to him. He said Shawn wasn't just leaving the business, he was leaving him."

"He was completely irrational for almost two weeks. I know he went to see Shawn that weekend and I'm assuming that they got things straightened out between them. When he came back he seemed almost like our Hunter. He suggested that we start rooming together. He said that Shawn wouldn't mind since it was going to be me and not some ring rat or one of the other guys on the roster. Since we are who we are, I figured he was probably right. It had been awhile since I had been around any of you guys on a regular basis so we kind of binged on the sex thing for awhile." Sean turned his head and looked at Shawn. Shawn smiled slightly at him, acknowledging that he had been completely aware of what had been going on back then and that he didn't have a problem with it. Sean smiled back and then turned to look Scott again.

"For about four months, everything seemed okay. We got along and Hunter came back to the room every night. I'm not sure what happened to change him then, but his temper seemed to be getting more out of control. Hunter unleashed his wrath on anyone with even the slightest provocation. He didn't always come back to the room at night and I don't know where he was staying. When I asked him about it, he went off on me and told me to mind my own damn business. I thought about calling one of you guys, but during the next argument that we had, the following night, he told me that Shawn knew what was going on with him. He said that he didn't want Scott or Kevin to get involved in what was going on and he'd appreciate it if I kept my mouth shut. So because he asked, I kept my mouth shut. Looking back on it now, I wish I hadn't."

"You probably shouldn't have. I have no clue what was going on with Hunter," Shawn said with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "If he was spending his nights somewhere else, he never told me about it. Not that it matters at all now, but I'm guessing he wasn't spending those nights all by himself. Go ahead Sean. What else?"

"Around November, Shawn came back as commissioner. Hunter had asked me the week before his return if we could start getting separate rooms. I knew he'd want to spend what time he could with Shawn, so it wasn't a huge deal, but it kind of hurt that he just tossed me off to the side because Shawn was going to be around. Once Shawn was back, Hunter seemed to calm down for awhile. Although I noticed he was really possessive of Shawn...I don't know that Shawn even noticed it." Sean again looked to Shawn and when he noticed the slight frown on Shawn's face he decided he should explain a bit.

"Hunter caught Adam checking Shawn out in the locker room one night and after Shawn left the room, Hunter slammed him up against the lockers and told him to stay away from Shawn or his career would be in the sewer slicker than... you get the picture. I know he's not the only one that Hunter had a talk with either. Hell, there were times he glared at me if I looked at Shawn sideways. I chalked it up to insecurity where Shawn was concerned, though it didn't really make sense."

Chris raised his eye a bit at that part of the story. He hadn't known about Hunter's warning to Adam, but it made sense. Adam had pretty much avoided Shawn like the plague unless they were with a group of people. He was kind of surprised though that Adam had never mentioned it to him. Chris shrugged it off, making a note to ask Adam about it later and turned his attention back to Sean's story.

"We all know what a basket-case Hunter was when Shawn had his surgery so I'll just skip all that except to say it didn't get much better until Shawn came back to TV. Not too much after that they had him joining the corporate ministry...that's when the changes became more noticeable. I was starting my feud with Glen and we became friends, onscreen and off. Hunter was less than pleased about that. He said I shouldn't be making friends with people that were going to hurt my career. I didn't know what he was going on about, but to save fights I didn't let on to Hunter how often Glen and I were hanging out. I even made up excuses so that we could get together sometimes. Not that he would have really noticed...Shawn was still around off and on and he seemed to be making friends with the other members of the new ministry. I guess they were good enough to be friends with because they could help his career."

Chris couldn't help but smirk though he hid it behind the fall of Sean's hair. That sounded exactly like the Hunter he knew. Unless you were going to boost his career or put out for him, Hunter didn't seem to have time for you. He didn't expect any of the others believed it yet though. Maybe by the time Sean was done, they would.

"Things went pretty smoothly up until the night the "King of the World" here," Sean patted his hand slightly on top of Chris' and looked over his shoulder with a smirk, "made his debut. I'm pretty sure that's the night everything started going to hell in a hand-basket."

Chris couldn't help but stiffen a bit at that. His debut? How the hell did he figure into things at that point? He couldn't even remember anything significant happening that night, other than meeting a whole bunch of co-workers. Now that he thought back on it, he hadn't met Hunter or Shawn that night. Chris looked over at Shawn, confusion plain on his face. Shawn looked pretty confused himself and he shrugged slightly in answer to Chris' silent question. Chris looked back at Sean and raised his brow? "What does my debut have to do with any of this?"

"That's easy. That's the night a big green-eyed monster bit Hunter right on the ass. Shawn was watching your debut in the locker room. He seemed a bit...fixated on the screen." Sean looked over at Shawn with a huge smirk on his face.

Shawn blushed and pouted a bit. "Hey, even though Hunter and I were still together then, it didn't mean I was dead. I am a guy after all. I'm going to look when there's pretty scenery."

"Pretty scenery?" Chris, sounding a bit out-raged, was now sporting his own blush and glaring at Shawn.

Sean snickered as he looked back at the two of them over his shoulder. At least they'd given him a moment to catch his breath and he had needed just a small break before telling the rest. This was where things were going to start getting really ugly and he wasn't looking forward to telling them about what all had happened. He was pretty sure Chris knew most of it, but there were at least a few surprises in store for the Ayatollah.

"Anyway...Shawn was staring at the screen," Sean turned and stuck his tongue out at Shawn. "Hunter tried to get his attention, several times in fact. When Hunter realized what had Shawn mesmerized he got seriously ticked off. Shawn, seriously, if looks could kill...you would have been toast on the spot with the look he was drilling into your back. Hunter made a few nasty remarks under his breath, which you obviously missed out on, and then stomped out of the locker room, which you also missed. We were all invited to the welcoming party after the show. Do you remember what you did that night Shawn?" Shawn shook his head no briefly. Though he knew he hadn't gone to the party, he couldn't recall why.

"Hunter came to you after your last spot and told you he had an awful headache. He wanted to go back to the hotel and nice, sweet lover that you were, you went with him." Shawn shook his head as he realized the implication Sean was making. Hunter hadn't had a headache, he just hadn't wanted Shawn anywhere near Chris.

"The next week was when you actually met Chris. Just long enough to say hello and flash that pretty boy smile of yours. Hunter and I were both standing right there, and as far as I could tell there was nothing wrong with it, but damn was Hunter livid about it. He bitched about it for half an hour while you were off talking to Vince that night. You had stared too long. You'd smiled too brightly. He knew you were interested in the little blond bitch. Sorry Chris. Just repeating what he said. Of course he didn't confront you about it, Shawn. He just whined and bitched about it while you were gone and then tried to act all happy when you came back. If it hadn't been so pathetic, it almost would have been amusing."

"So why didn't you tell me about any of this stuff at the time Sean?" Shawn was honestly confused about why Sean wouldn't have told him. It wasn't like Shawn hadn't had to deal with a bit of jealousy from Hunter before.

"It wasn't my place man. I wasn't going to get involved in your relationship. That was just begging for trouble. Especially with Hunter as pissed off as he was. If I had said anything to you, Hunter would have taken my head off. So I kept it to myself. The next week, Hunter became the new champ for the first time. We were all proud of him and even though you weren't on TV that night you were backstage. We took him out and partied that night and damn did we get drunk. It was almost like old times, until Chris and his friends walked into the same bar. They were clear across the room from us. I don't know that they even knew we were there, but whenever you weren't looking at Hunter, he was glaring at them. At the time I thought it was pretty damn hilarious. Of course that was before what happened after Smackdown that week..." Sean tilted his head, looking in Shawn's direction.

"I'm not sure any of us know what all happened that night, but I know Hunter caught you watching Chris' match that night with Jesse and the part after with Finkel. I also know he was mad enough to spit nails, though he hid it well enough when you turned around and saw him standing there. That was the night you two split up for good, though I'm not sure any of us know all the details."

To be continued...
