2000 Winton Reunion Report

104 of the Winton clan gathered for "Christmas with the Winton's" at Rich Mountain Retreat in Mena, Arkansas and we ate every crumb of the Winton Dessert Contest and welcomed new-found cousins into our fold. Folks traveled from coast to coast and points in-between; NC, California, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee and Mississippi representing many of the childred of Wm & Betsey Winton including Rev. John, James, Robert, Stephen C., and George.  I was so disappointed our Margaret Winton Dunn cousin from Oklahoma did not attend.  One of these days we will have someone from each of the children of Wm and Betsey and I can retire!

Winners in our Winton Dessert Contest were:

       1st:
Sammye Winton: prize = ice cream freezer
       2nd:

       3rd:

If you are in Mena, Arkansas stop by the Holland House for a meal. Jack Holland did a SUPER job on lunch and dinner.

Josephine Murray of DeQueen, Arkansas won the 19" color TV in our raffle.

We have a volunteer who will produce a Winton calendar as a 2001 fund raiser. More information to follow.

We have a new design for our Winton Reunion t-shirts and caps this year; khaki with forest green design, caps are khaki with forest green bill. If you would like to order a shirt, we have L and XL for $10 each.  Caps are $10 each plus $3 postage: order from   MawPeggy@ectisp.net

Bidding was fast and furious at the auction and we appreciate the addition to our reunion fund.  The 2000 Winton Reunion Quilt was a hit and I have already found one for the 2001 Reunion.

Folks cooled off with bowls of homemade ice cream before they took their positions for the "Trash or Treasure" Game.  A large stack of gifts brought the "kid" out in all of us; amazing what folks will do for a "Treasure!" When they were finally allowed to open their gifts, some found makeup, books, tattoos, jets, motorcycles, a camera and even a car!  Never know what surprises are waiting for you at one of our Winton Reunions!

EAT, EAT, EAT....that is what we did! Cousins Carolyn & George Breshears and Royce & Gloria Binnion prepared a hearty breakfast for us Sunday morning before our Sunday Praise Service. It was a wonderful time of sharing as we praised the Lord. Wayne Winton led a cemetery tour for those who were willing to brave the 100+ degree temperatures. Sammye sent the address for the Rocky Cemetery treasurer in case any of the George Winton line is interested: David Redding, 364 Polk 95, Mena, Ar 71953 (50l) 394-3029

We headed home, tired but very happy to have had another chance to get to know our Winton cousins. As we drove back to Texas we started thinking and planning new things to include in 2001. Come join us in 2001 so we can get to know you and share info on our Winton ancestors.
