28 July 2001 Community Center Redbud Park Marlow, Oklahoma 121 Winton cousins gathered for the annual Winton Family Reunion. Four of the Quinton line joined us this year. They are working hard to prove they are descendants of George Winton's eldest daughter who died before 1850. This year's reunion saw cousins traveling from TX, MO, NM, OK, CO, OR, and CA to join us. Several cousin entertained us with our first Winton Christmas Play, Santa Clause even made an appearance! Stephanie Davis was a gem--memorized her lines and did a wonderful job as "Maw Winton". A big thank you to Stephanie, Rusty Cross, Clifton House, Randy House, Ian Swart, Afton and Margaret Daniel, Hannah Swart, Jean Stanbery, Hannah Swart, Robert H. Wilson, and ? Turney During our business meeting we awarded prizes (my list of the winners was misplaced so I'm winging it!) to those who Traveled the Most Miles...I think this prize went to Victor D. and Luella Lowther of Oregon, Married the Longest (63 years....Ruby Winton Vantine of Sterling, OK...Ruby passed away February 2002); Ruby won for Most Descendants, too; Most Recently Married was Ruby's son, Ron Vantine and his bride, Donna, married 16 Feb 2001, Oldest Descendant (memory is failing me here but I think that might have been Kathleen Fitter of NM) and Youngest Descendant...believe this was Reece Alexander of Marlow, OK. We had some nifty items in the Auction this year. Thanks to everyone who donated items and those who purchased items to keep our Reunion afloat. We had a Snack Food Contest, but I was not a part the judging and my notes are missing on the winners. I do recall Jean Stansbery was possibly one of the winners. Thank You to all who brought an entry! First, Second and Third prizes were awarded. I will try to do better next year! Need a clone to help me so I can be in more than one place at a time ;) Our first 50/50 Raffle Winner was Ruth L. Qualls Lamb of Escondido, CA; she was thrilled! Josephine Murray of DeQueen, Arkansas donated a quilt for raffle...many thanks to Josephine for this donation. (I did not get the winner's name) Trash or Treasure Gift Stampede was a big success. The race for wrapped gifts brought out the kid in everyone. Some found wonderful treasures once the wrapping paper was removed while others were rewarded with "trash". Helen Grose of Lawton, OK won the $50 for returning to the reunion and bringing the most cousins to the 2001 reunion! After the evening meal Gene Stanbery, Ian Swart, and Helen Cline entertained us with some Blue Grass music...really appreciate them! A BIG THANK YOU! to Gene Stanbery for staying and helping with the clean up! And thanks to all those who helped to take down the displays, etc. Reunions are work, but so enjoyable! Back Reunions |
