| William Winton ( John ) was born circa 1741 in Scotland or Ulster, Ireland or Pennsylvania. He died circa 1800 in possibly Jefferson Co., Tennessee. We believe William joined his children in Tennessee since he signed daughter, Margaret's marriage bond in what became Greene Co., TN. William married circa 1760 most likely in Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, to Elizabeth (Betsey ?) who might have been a McClellan/d. Betsey was born circa 1740, possibly in Scotland or Ireland or Pennsylvania. She died circa 1800, possibly in Jefferson Co., Tennessee. Some believe she is Rhoda...Betsey is the name given to me when I started researching in 1984....if she is Rhoda...please show me documentation. Census 1790, 1800 Their issue: i. John Winton ii. McClellan Winton iii. Margaret Winton iv. William Winton, Jr. v. James Winton I vi. Mary (Polly/Molly) Winton vii. Robert Winton viii. Stephen Winton ix. George Winton, Sr. There may have been other children, possibly daughters we have not found yet. If you have an Elizabeth or Rhoda Winton born between 1761-1780's she just might be one of ours.
