The Shaka-Dula
Home of the Bud#1 Divisional Champs in the Winnipeg Senior Men's Basketball League
AKA - Labatt's Super Men's Basketball League
This year's squad formed what was the renaissance of the Shaka-Dula machine. Powered by new faces and a new drive to prove that we could still dominate, our team went undefeated during the regular season and playoffs to capture another title.16-0. As you can see by the picture above, we got some new uniforms too. So now we at least LOOK like basketball players.

Among the many highlights of our season was a 104-50 win which caused that team to quit the league. Other highlights include our championship game where we escaped by earning it with a 2 point win in overtime. Kudos to our opponents for a game well played.

Although everyone's effort is considered valuable and appreciated, there were 3 players in particular that stood out. As voted by the team, our outstanding players are:

1. Jeremy Byrnes
2. Matthew Flamand
3. Nathan Eisbrenner

And there was one player in particular who stood out for all the wrong reasons. This person proved that the evil in the human heart is only surpassed by its stupidity. Way to go Bill! Have fun in jail!

A Brief History of our Team:

The Shaka-Dula was a basketball Team that was begun for people with a desire to play hard nosed defense and have fun. Our team went 15-2 during the inaugural season (2000-2001), with our only 2 losses coming at the start of the year by 1 and 3 points respectively. We went 7-0 during the playoffs and beat the team that beat us by 12 to win our first championship in our first try.

Notable players were Craig Pawlychyn, whose athleticism & Basketball IQ always kept us in the game. Also, TJ Johnson, whose scoring ability made us one of the fastest & most dangerous teams on the fast break. Nathan Eisbrenner went from paper weight to Heavy weight :) and gave us a BIG big man that could do it all by the end of the year.

Our second year (2001-2002) saw the addition of a couple of new faces including
Bill Stoddart. We went 8-0 during the first half with an average win of 22 points. We were so good that they moved us up 2 divisions at the halfway mark of the season. During the second half we went 4-3 and finished our season on a disappointing loss to a below average team by 5 points. Oh well, there's always next year, right?

The third year (2002-2003) was rough. We lost one of our stars, Craig Pawlychyn, to a job in Calgary and we lost our #1 scorer, TJ Johnson, to a pretty gruesome arm injury. Bill Stoddart moved out to BC, and we  had 2 or 3 other players decide that they were done with basketball for multiple life reasons (i.e.: Injuries and schooling). With that, we only had 5 players and not enough to make a team. So for the third year, our team "took a break".
