When I started building this webpage the horrific and devasting day of September 11 had not occurred. I want to place a tribute to all those who lost their lives, to those families who have lost loved-ones and friends, to those who are missing and to all those who worked in the rescue and medical teams. My heartfelt thoughts are with you all!
We answered our phone that morning to our sister in Ohio. She told us that a terrorist attack had occurred, and to turn on our television set. In disbelief and shock we watched the broadcast as it unfolded before our horrified eyes. Tears fell freely and my heart was overcome with a heavy sadness. It was obvious that many people had lost their lives. I didn't feel angry for a couple of days, I think the shock was too great, also I was functioning in a robot-like manner until I found out that my cousin who was living in Manhattan was safe. Even then my relief was not as great as it could have been for I knew that their were many many families who would not receive the news that their loved-ones were alive. It was then that I began to feel the anger toward those monstors who had perpetrated this blatant act of senseless terrorism.
I would like to share with you all my American brothers and sisters a few of the ways the people of Sydney Australia have acknowledged your loss and grief, the personal ways people here have united with you in spirit. In a park close to where my children attend school an American flag was hung, flowers and messages of condolence were laid beneath it. Our television stations continuously broadcast updates and news. A "big screen" was erected in the city centre where people congregated and watched in horror and disbelief - the shock and grief evident on the faces of all who were there. School children expressed their grief for the lives lost via emails and letters to your Leaders. Churches held services and counselling centres were set up for those affected personally or just because they felt your grief and pain too.
BLESS YOU AMERICA AND ALL WHO STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD IN THIS WORLD. UNITED WE STAND WITH YOU!!
