Message from Prez Deblois

WELCOME

On behalf of the MBA Association, I am pleased to have this opportunity to welcome everybody in the Lorna Benavidez-Miller Cup basketball league. We named this as "The Lorna Benavides-Miller Cup" in honor of our co-worker and friend Lorna who strongly battled cancer. It is a nobility in part of the MBAa to name its league after her and wished that we can do more than this. We extend our sincere prayers and suppport to Lorna Benavidez Miller
MBAa is jubilant that you participated in this league. As in the past, it becomes a tradition of the MBA association to organize basketball teams. it was mainly among Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility Filipino/American employees and friends. The main objectives of the association are: to spend time to be together, to have fun and of course exercise. A "healthy body is a healthy mind" as we say. The association then realized that this is not enough. MBAa then decided to invite other teams from all over NY city and that is why we have this basketball league.
As a key officer of this association, I would like to remind all teams, all players to strictly observe the rules and regulations. Basketball is a game that we cannot avoid body contact, therefore, I urge every player to exercise good sportsmanship during each game. if we observe this guideline, I assure you all that we will have fun in this activity.
Let's play ball. Good Luck to all teams.

PLAYOFF (MATIRA MATIBAY)
WINNERS ADVANCE, LOSERS GO HOME

Let’s get ready to rumble.!!!Its 4 teams, one ring, put up or shut up, go harder or go home. It’s playoff time!!!. The time of year where players become heroes from last seconds shot. Where goats have all summer long to eat grass on their yards. Players separate themselves from being a champ to a chump.
Playoff time rush arrived and the teams are now devising, designing an insidious strategy (stragedy) for their team. Players, coaches, trainers and fans are all soup up, ecstatic, thrilled by the way it end up and the way it will be. Precious moments were captured during that single elimination round, lows and highs precipitated during the intense games. Winning and misery that’s what it is. The August to madness is here, its time to measure, gauge each team weaknesses and strength.

FINAL FOUR PREVIEW
NY PABAs VS CTnY Connections
ODDS --Connection by 4 (59-55)
Last time they met, pabas beat connection by 9 points behind San Pedro 32 points. Rapay and Calderon missed that game. Now with Connection coming of ages and having there key players back, they are in with a vengeance. The only loss they suffered this season was with the PABAs. Coach Afable is confident his team will pull this one to advance in the finals but Coach Egasan has other plans. He is the catalyst of this team, without him they are at disarray and Egasan knows how to pull the right plug. Both teams are young and have springs in their legs. PABAs are more athletic but Connection is more balanced. This battle will be decided by breaks, PABAs are more prone to turnovers while Connections are very opportunistic team but they don’t hold leads well. Policarpio will have his hands full against the duo of Maala, and Cascasan. He has to control these two on the board or else they will have a feast the board. On the forward position Rapay and Antonio will battle with Cordero and Villas, with the PABAs having advantage coz Cordero and Villas could out jump their counterpart, they are more athletic but less consistent scorers, defensive wise they also have the edge, but Rapay is a consistent scorer same goes with Antonio. On guards, for the key match up Mole and San Pedro is about even, both capable scorers and could create their own shot. Mole is more of a slasher while San Pedro is deadly on the perimeter. Calderon is the key here because he is more of a point guard and could relieve Mole of the ball distribution and will set up Rapay and Mole for the offensive thrust. Bench wise PABAs is deeper, with Balbarin, Ella, Arzadon and Tibay going up against the Guico brothers, Abubo and Cansio. Defensively they are even and whoever control the boards will win this game

Manhattan Sportsmaster vs Brooklyn Dbuangs
ODDS—Sporsmaster by 7 (74-67)

This is a rematch of their championship fight last season. Sportsmaster beat them at the last quarter of that game. Dbuangs which were known as Knights before were ahead most of the game and collapsed at the last quarter. Well, this is another game without the big men which killed the DBuang last time. They will miss Clemente’s ball handling and three point threat which Rj Chua even though as adept as Clemente on distributing the ball is not that much threat outside the perimeter. They have to rely on Bautista and Caluya which Paguntalan had a hard time last year. Paguntalan who nearly average double digits assists improved so much on his shooting and with Cuasito, the best shooting guard on the league on the other guard position, Brooklyn has their job cut on them. On the slot position Remorca will use his body against the high leaping Junio who had 14 rebounds last game. The positions on which the dbuangs have advantage are the forward spots, Alvior and Chua will go up against Lazo (last year MVP) and Villegas. Bench wise Sporstmaster hold the biggest advantage of all the teams. Their second team could play as a first team on most teams; Sportsmaster has a supple and robust bench and Brooklyn has no answer for Otazu et al. Coach Bollozos knows his team strong points and that is trapped defense and Brooklyn needs ball handlers to attack this defense. The team that gives Sportsmaster trouble are the teams who score lot of points in the paint which the Dbuangs are capable of doing. If Cuasito hits on all angles then Brooklyn is history. Again, defense wins the game and both teams are keen on doing it. Sportsmaster are more athletic and patient on their offense which give them a definite edge over Dbuang.
