Atchafalaya River

As you can see there is some water around here to deal with. The big one is the Atchafalaya, carrying one third of the Mississippi's flow from Simmesport and all of the Red's, Black's, Quachita's and a bunch more. It is deep and it is dangerous.
Intracoastal Canal
In Berwick, water is the game.  Berwick is a busy terminal for offshore workers and the shrimping industry. That's a shrimp boat. The bridge that US 90 use to cross the river is to the left. The other one carries new US 90 and possibly I-49 if we ever recover from the hurricanes and have a few bucks to spend.
The old bridge is not the Old Bridge. It's the Long-Allen Bridge, being built during both governor's administrations. People get sloppy and forget history.
The new bridge is named for someone.  I saw the little green sign telling the name, but I don't know him and I forgot, so it's the New Bridge to me. Notice, old Huey didn't put any little green sign on his bridge. You were to know who built that bridge for you and vote accordingly the next time.
For Huey, the next time could have been for President.
The lighthouse and Old Train Bridge in the background, kept in the raised position until needed?
Rollin' on the River
Artsy Picture?
The Long-Allen and what's his name bridges taken last December from the Berwick Warf.
Going up the Long-Allen from the Morgan City side. I cannot tell a lie. I wanted to get one from the Berwick side but I couldn't get a decent angle. The bridge is closed to vehicular traffic. The bridge is not closed to pedestrian traffic. That's right, old Huey provided a pedestrian walkway with stairs just before the river on both sides. What's his name didn't.
Coming down the Long-Allen Bridge into Morgan City as a child I would remember two things, the shrimp boat and the rig. They are still there. The Sprit of Morgan City is the name. MC host The Shrimp Festival which features the Blessing of the Fleet.
I took this one on my back, pretty good, isn't it? I wirte to myself in the guest book, also.
Ever see the movie about the first offshore rig and the war between the shrimpers and oilers?
Wasn't John Wayne in that one? I remember the blow out and the oil gushing everywhere.
Old 90 coming into Morgan City is called Brashear Avenue. Why? Find out on the next page.
