The Missionaries of Charity

The Missonaries of Charity are a religious order founded by the late

(...and the great!) Mother Teresa M.C. Their vocation is to serve

Christ in the distressing disguise of the poorest of the poor. A

congregation founded in 1950 which has its roots in Calcutta.

On 10 September 1946, a date rememberred yearly by the Missionaries

of Charity as 'Inspiration Day', on a train journey from Calcutta to

Darjeeling, came what Mother described as the call within a call.

'I was to leave the convent and help the poor while living among

them. It was an order. To fail would have been to break the faith.'
