Week 4 Monday 03-24-03 Oww, this is not fun! I neglected lathering myself with Cetaphil Cream for the last couple of days, and now I'm certain I'm paying for it. The tops of both of my forearms (all the way up to the elbow) have a bumpy, dry rash. The bumps are a pale pink, with minute, peeling rings around them. Some places are just scaly, and the whole thing BURNS! It burns when I bend my arm, burns when I accidentally rub it on something, and burns when the sun touches it. It's making me nervous; I hope my dermatologist doesn't see this as a reason for me to stop taking the medicine altogether. I can't believe it's only the fourth week, and I can't imagine what week 20 is going to feel like.
Thursday 03-27-03 OK, the rash improved a little when I applied some Cetaphil Cream. I guess it was just dry. Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a procrastinator - especially when it comes to waking up and leaving for class in the mornings. I didn't have time to moisturize my arms today, and the rash worsened. I had to stuff 100 brown envelopes at work, and rested my arms on my legs as I dealt with the them on the floor. The parts of my arms that were in contact with my jeans are worse than the rest of the arm. Also, I was wearing latex gloves to avoid paper cuts. When I took them off, I had new rashes on the back of my hands. The skin under my chin and on my neck is dry and flaky. It kind of looks fuzzy - I hope no one mistakes it for hair. I can't seem to find any info on this, so I'm not sure if it's a side effect from Accutane, but I've noticed excess mucus in the back of my throat. My throat is also very sore in the morning. Still no improvement in acne - it's HORRIBLE! I've never had zits like this before in my life; they're HUGE! My left cheek was much better than the right, but now it's also starting to break out with painful cysts - I think I feel four of them now in a "C" shape. I hate when they form in weird patterns. Last week, I had a triangle of zits on the right cheek - it was uncanny (Approx. 7 huge, painful lumps there today). I also had a colony of about 3 pustules bunched together on my forehead, the "Triad." I was able to pinch-pierce an area of skin with my fingernails and drain all three at once. I'm sure that's not good for it, but it looks (and feels) much better. My shoulders still feel very lumpy with zits, but only two or three are painful. There are oodles of red scars from me picking at both my face and my shoulders. I can't stop myself! I have my first follow-up appointment tomorrow - I'll let you know how it goes! :) Oh, someone finally signed my guestbook! I was so excited! :-D 12 Weeks to go!
