BTS SKY TRAIN

Bangkok has recently opened a new mass transit system, the BTS SkyTrain, to help deal with the traffic congestion.  If you've been to Bangkok, you know it needs all the help it can get.  What would normally take 15-30 minutes in the states, turns into a two hour wait in traffic.

To promote the Sky Train, BTS gave out free round trip tickets.  I was able to get advance tickets to ride the Sky Train.  The demand for them was pretty high but I had a connection, a friend who worked for BTS.  I gave out some to my relatives and some to friends.

The day of the free promotion was on Friday and Saturday.  So some friends at work and I decided that after work we would go for a ride, get dinner, and make an evening of it.  So P' Nee, Uan, and I took a tour of Bangkok from 100 feet in the air.  We went along the entire route, stopping off for sushi and sake at Siam Square.

It was pretty cool seeing Bangkok from the air.  Normally to get this kind of view, you needed to go to a high rise building like the Westin Hotel or the Dusit Thani, but there, you're static, not moving.  On the Sky Train, its like your flying through the heart of Bangkok.

It was also funny watching the local Thais ride the Sky Train.  The doors would open and everyone would race in, trying to get in first, looking for the best seats, as if they've never seen a train or subway before (which is true I guess).

Uan and Me at the station.  Peace Out Bangkok!!
