Standard Operating Procedures
                                              Of the
                      McMahan Volunteer Fire Department



The folloing SOP's have been formulated to promote safe and effective work
practices , lowering injury potential, maintaining an effective response force and
establish and keep positive public relations. These are meant to supplement rather than replace the common sense of responders, The MVFD Bylaws, or any local, state or federal laws.  This Document is to be re-evaluated on an annual basis and re-issued to the MVFD members in January of each year.

Stations

1)  Stations shall be kept clean and orderly inside, and maintain around the outside perimeter.  Any repairs needed she'll be reported to the Fire Chief.
2)  members present at the station shall be respectful of the communities roads property & atmosphere, exhibiting courtesy and professionalism.
3)  Stations shall remain locked at all times, with the exceptions of Fire calls members training, vehicle maintenance or station cleaning.
4)  Responders shall not block roads, stationed doors or the gas tank with their personal vehicles.

Trucks
1)  Trucks shall remain in quarters unless responding to a fire.
2)  under authority of the Fire Chief, Trucks may be out of quarter for training purposes or repairs & maintenance.
4)  Any emergency repairs or modifications to a truck shall not compromise safety or cause further damage to equipment and the Fire Chief or an Assistant Fire Chief must be notified immediately.
5)It is the responsibility of the last driver to both notify the Fire Chief or an Assistant Fire Chief, as well as post on the station house board, any uncorrected problems that a truck or apparatus has.

Responders
1)  Drivers of MVFD Fire Trucks must be paid and acknowledged members of the MVFD, at least 18 years of age, have their name in license recorded on the MVFD insurance records, and have been certified by the Fire Chief to drive that specific truck.
2)  All responders driver licenses must be currently valid and free of class A violations.
3)  Responders shall not be impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Fire Response
1)  McMahanTrucks will not roll to an emergency scene unless page by the Caldwell County SO.
2)  No responders will ride to a fire outside the cab of a truck.
3)  All Code 3 responses shall not exceed 10 MPH over the posted speed limit, with due care to whether, road and traffic conditions.
4)  All Code 3 responses shall not violate state vehicle laws in such a manner as to injure public/private property or injure the public or responders.
5)  MVFD assumes no responsibility for Code 3 responses involving personal vehicles.
6)  Prior to responding to a fire call, responders shall visually inspect the fire trucks for signs of obvious problems such as low or flat tires, fluid leaks, are other trouble that would impact the function of the vehicle.
7)  All radio transmissions should minimize the use of 10-Code language.  Clear brief language should be used to communicate information to the SO or other responding vehicles.

Fire Scene Protocol
1) The first responder on the scene will assume the role Of Incident Commander (IC) until a higher-ranking officer overrides to assume IC with the county dispatch.
2) The chain of command from top to bottom shall be as follows:
     *   Law Officers
     *  Incident Commander
     *  Fire Chief
     *  Assistant Fire Chief
     *  Fire Truck Driver
     *  Responder
3) When approaching a fire seem, slow your response, assess the fire size and response required, report this to the IC and/or canny dispatch, and get the pump apparatus running.4
4) Avoid Cutting Fences Whenever Possible, and Report All Cut Fences As Soon As Practical to the IC and the Dispatch.  After the fire is contained a temporary repair to the fence should be attempted.
5) When backing are otherwise maneuvering a fire truck, have someone assist in directing you IF Possible.
6) Do not leave the Fire seen at your awn discretion without reporting to the IC.
7) Do a leave the scene until a rekindle is unlikely, and all attempts to minimize a rekindle have been exercised.

Radio Communications
1) EMS radio traffic takes presidents over Fire traffic.
2) No personal businesses shall be conducted on fire department radios.
3) All radio communications shall be clear, brief and succint. Use of 10 codes shall be minimized.
4) The Fire Chief shall determine specific radio Protocol.
5) Each member of the M. V. F. D. shall be responsible for radio all pager equipment issue to him are her.  Any malfunctions of equipment she'll be reported immediately to the Fire Chief are an assistant Fire Chief.  Issued equipment shall remain in possession of the person it was issued to

Return to the Station
1)  Return to the station under Code 1 response protocol.
2)  All response trucks should be filled with water, oil & gasoline, and left totally ready for the next response.
3)  It is the responsibility of the truck driver to make sure all electrical equipment on that truck is in the OFF position.
4) The station should be locked and secured with the lights turned off. Any malfunction of the station doors should be reported to the Fire Chief or an Assistant Fire Chief immediately.

TRAINING
1) All responders shall have annual cetification by the Fire Chief on all departmental vehicles.
2) Requests for training funding shall be discussed at a regularly scheduled fire meeting adequately in advance of the training. Members are encouraged to seek relevant training.
3) MVFD responders shall not engage in response activities that exceed their level of training.
4) MVFD responders shall not engage in response activities that place them at risk of injury.
