It gets dark so early now
It's hard to believe it's even evening
One lazy hour after another
Slipping through my hands

No use in holding on
The sun is gone and the dark's inviting
Beckoning with promises of solace
And relief from life's demands

But in the dark I lose my way
The path obscured I wait for day
Even though I know the night is long
And all I have is song

I watch the rainbow of the sky
Turn all to black and slowly die away
Leaving only the memory of sunlight
Still burning in my eyes

The vault of heaven seems so
Empty like all the angels flew away
The moon's already set and
The millions of stars have yet to rise

The trees are bare and shades of grey
The shadows cover up decay
Of a time gone by, fruit fallen down
To rot upon the ground

God has forsaken the winter
Flown away with the birds in search of
Some better weather
Forsaken all of His failures
Poor wretched creatures all alone in
The middle of the night

God has forsaken the darkness
Taken His light away in search of
A more worthy promised land
Forsaken billions of followers
How else would this earth be sinking
Into this sort of hell?

Everyone's become so blind
The darkness came and snatched away our sight
Death drawing towards us like a phantom
Unseen by human eyes

Our hearing deafened by
The crying of the masses in the night
The voice of reason has been drowned in
A surging sea of lies

I scream into the empty sky
Questioning the reasons why
But in the same way Satan fell
Damned eternally to hell

God has forsaken the winter
Flown away with the birds in search of
Some better weather
Forsaken all of His failures
Poor wretched creatures all alone in
The middle of the night

God has forsaken the darkness
Taken His light away in search of
A more worthy promised land
Forsaken billions of followers
How else would this earth be sinking
Into this sort of hell?

Into this sort of hell...
