Welcome
DIVE INTO READING!
READING IN THE CLASSROOM
Reading is an extremely important part of our classroom. Independent reading (on your own) and whole group reading and writing will make up a big part of our day. I like to do a lot of reading in all type of books, and I'm sure you will, too!
BOOK TALKS
Book talks are a fun and exciting way to tell your classmates about a book you have read. Each child will share thoughts about a book( including such things as the author, the characters, the setting, and a problem in the story, as well as the beginning, the middle, and the end of the story) in different ways such as a decorated shoebox, as a mobile, dressed up as one of the characters, etc. This is a favorite activity that everyone enjoys but it does require a little planning ahead!
Book talks are always due at the end of the month, so begin thinking now about how you will share a book you will read!
READING LOG
Your child will be required to read each night in a book of his choice for about twenty minutes, and to record this in his or her yellow reading log. We cannot stress the importance of daily reading to  strengthen your child's foundation in reading. One page is provided for each week in the nine week period. Parents, please take the time to have a responsible person listen to your child and sign when he has finished. We want your child to have the best opportunity to succeed and do his or her very best!
Thank you for your support in your child's education
!
  CLASSROOM READING
We will read from a variety of sources in the classroom. Some of these include National Geographic Explorer, Weekly Reader, Kind News (Kids in Nature's Defense), Fabulously Funny Fairy Tales, Tall Tales, Poetry, historical fiction,  etc.
We hope to be able to work in cooperative groups to answer questions
and have discussions. We want to make reading fun and exciting for each child!
