OUR NEW YEAR
We are very excited about starting a new year! Third grade will offer many challenges, especially in the area of academics. This year you will be studying Reading, Math, English, Spelling, Science, and Social Studies. You will also be learning your multiplication tables and how to write in cursive. Third grade is a lot of fun, but it also requires a lot of concentration on your part!
HOMEWORK POLICY
Homework is very important in third grade!  Each child is expected to return assigned homework the next day. If you are sick, then I will usually give 2-3 days for the homework to be made up, depending upon what the homework involves. Points will be subtracted for homework that is not turned in on a regular basis. We want each child to get in a regular routine of good study habits at home and at school!
FIELD TRIPS
We are planning a field trip to the Rollins Planetarium as part of our study of the planets in Science. We also plan to visit the Mountain Heritage Center in Cullowhee or Foxfire in Mountain City, Georgia as part of our study of colonial times in Social Studies. We also have another field trip or two in the works, but  we'll let you know about them later!
END OF GRADE TEST
The end of grade test is given in the spring to test each child's knowledge of the subject material covered in Reading and Math throughout the year. It is also used as a benchmark in determining whether a child is ready for the fourth grade. Higher order thinking skills and problem solving will be taught daily to prepare each child to do his very best on the test!
