The intership program is intended to supplement formal classroom instruction. Its intent is to add significantly to the vitality and impact of courses that a student has taken or will take. Juniors and seniors are eligible to register for interships provided they meet certain qualifications. (See FAQ page.) Academic credit is awarded in the amount of 1 unit of credit for 135 hours of on-the-job learning (this is 1-1/2 hours per school day for one semester). Students will select a teacher sponsor who they must meet with each week and who will work them on their final project presentation. The teacher sponsor will be responsible for assigning a grade to the student. Interns will maintain timesheets, keep a journal of their experiences, and make a formal presentation to a class of their choosing at the end of the internship. These things, along with evaluation by the community sponsor, will be used to determine their grade at the end of the semester. |
