Upper Body Mat
Showers of Possibilities
The upper body mat consists of 8 stations that can be performed in a push up position, modified push up position or crossover push up position (push up position where the student picks up alternate hands and touches the opposite shoulder with them.)  Each station instructs the student as to what to do and how many times to do it.  For non-readers and younger students, it can be demonstrated.  Each station requires the student to alternate hands each time they perform the skill.
Station 1:  Musical Chairs-(bottom left)-Alternate hands as you move the animals from one chair to another.
Station 2:  Little Piggy-(bottom middle)-Recite the little piggy rhyme which is posted on the mat.  As you alternate hands and say the rhyme, you move the pig from place to place as indicated in the rhyme.
Station 3:  High Rollers-(bottom right)-Roll the dice and perform that number of push ups, modified,  regular, or crossover push ups.
Station 4:  Build a House-(middle right)-Alternate hands as you pick up the foam bricks and build your own house.
Station 5:  Push Up Juggling-(upper right)-Choose push up position.  Alternate hands and throw the scarf in the
air, catching it with the opposite hand before it touches the ground.
Station 6:  Stacking Cups-(upper middle)-Choose push up position.  Alternate hands and stack the cups into a formation of choice.
Station 7:  Flipping Pancakes-(upper left corner)-Choose push up position.  Alternate hands to flip the pancakes from one skillet to another.
Station 8:  Walk Around the World-(middle left)-Choose push up position.  Alternate hands and follow the hand prints around the world and back.  The "world" was cut out of a magazine, mounted on a piece of construction paper and laminated.
