I see that you decided to come in and see more about Lavender Lady. Welcome to my information page. |
First I will tell you why I used the name Lavender Lady. My favorite color (and my granddaughter's) is purple. Purple Lady just didn't flow the way Lavender Lady did. Since Lavender is a shade of purple that was my name I am a mid-western Baby Boomer, raised in a small, middle-class, white community. I have reached the half century mark and do not feel I could possibly be that old. Looking forward to many more years to come. My job is that of a Victim's Advocate for the Prosecutor's Office in the Domestive Violence Division. Unfortunately I was a victim of D.V. over 20 years ago and got out early. I am a reunited adoptee who was given up for adoption at the age of almost 7. My adopted parents were 46 when they adopted me so there was about a two generation gap. I was the only child in my adopted family, but the middle child on my birth mother's side and #3 of four children on my father's side. My older sister was given up at birth and never knew until about 3 years ago that the people who raised her were not her birth parents. That is when I located her. I reunited with my birth mother and younger brother (Butch) after I graduated from high school. It has been a real pleasure knowing my older sister. She lives in North Carolina so we do not get to see one another that often. My interests are varied. I am a full-fledged Bibliophile. (For those who are not familiar with that word it is not a "bad" word. It means I enjoys books, books and more books. Thought you had found an X-rated place for a minute, huh?) In the realm of casual reading I enjoy authors Sara Paretsky, Robin Cook, Sharyn McCrumb, Iris Johanson, Lillian Jackson Braun, Susan Wittig Albert and Patricia Cornwell. Female authors I enjoy are Charolette Perkins-Gilman, Kate Chopin , Marge Piercy, Margaret Atwood, Zora Neale Hurston, Maya Angelou, Lois Battle, and Elizabeth Berg. Some of the feminist writings/books that I enjoy are "Bitch, In Praise of Difficult Women," and"Quest for the Woman Warrior," I enjoy books concerning women's growth, and creativity. One of my favorites along that line is SARK ("Succulent Wild Women," "Eating Mangoes Naked," "Change Your LIfe Without Getting Out of Bed," and "Transformation Soup" are a few of her books.) If you don't know this write/artist, you really need to get to know her. Other things I enjoy are solitude, music (NO opera or rap - you can't understand either one of them) I like to play Euchre (that is a card game), doing flower gardening, spending time with my granddaughter who is a complete JOY and full of sparks, checking out new eating places, growing and using herbs and various types of crafting (scrapbooking, journaling, making cards, making bath salts, jewelry, and candles). Unfortunately there are too many things I would like to do and not enough time to do them all. Genealogy is another interest and I have either already made pages for my family lines or am in the process of making them. Names in my birth family are Munsey/Muncy; Jenkinson; Read/Reed; Snyder and for my adopted family the names are Dayhuff and Cassidy. I am owned by a lovely cat name Isabelle and a Daugle (Daschund/Beagle mix) named McKensie. Living with them is truly like living with Garfield and Odie! They certainly bring laughter to my life. I have a page dedicated to them since my children would have a hissy fit if they were put on a page. I suppose that is quite enough. Sorry if you were too bored. No one said that I had to be highly entertaining. |

Some Quotes by SARK from her 2001 Calender: Learning to fall in love with yourself is an immense challenge - I'm still learning! I believe it is important to continue having outrageous adventures all through our lives - in whatever forms they take. How do YOU nourish yourself? (Besides food) Nourishing touches? Nourishing walks? Nourishing books? Nourishing words? Nourishing naps? Nourishing self talk? |
