Discovering Buddhism Course (May 9th - May 12th) The last few days of my Nepal trip, I spent at the Himalayan Buddhist Meditation Center in Kathmandu. Because Tibetan Buddhism is present in all kinds of forms in the Mountains, I decided to learn a bit more about it. At first it seemed like the course wasn't going to take place because only two people signed up. Luckily, some more signed up in the last minute so in the end we were with eight people. It all started on Thursday afternoon when we had a little introduction and our first meditation session. After this, the next days were filled with meditations, buddhist teachings, discussion groups etc. From about 9 at night to 3 in the afternoon, we had to keep silence. This was to not be distracted by the talking of others and we could think about the things we learned. Of course this led to all kinds of funny situations where we were using sign language or facial expressions to find out if someone else was using the shower or if the other person wanted a cup of tea. In the end we just whispered those things. We got our teachings from different people. Some actually in those red (maroon) and yellow robes with almost bold heads. All of them great people, down to earth, funny etc. All in all they were a very interesting few days and I'm glad I did the course. Back to Nepal Home Page |
