Hey everybody. Today (March 14th) I will be leaving for a two month trip to Nepal. On this page, I will try to give somewhat regular updates of my Nepalese adventures. April 9th: I started copying my journal from the Everest Base Camp trip. It was a super trip!!!! Really hard sometimes, but well worth it. The journal is pretty much done now. Sorry it got so long. Maybe I'll make a condensed version sometime. Enjoy reading it. Next up is the trip to Annapurna, but first a few days of relaxing and eating some different food (had a spinach- mushroom enchilada today!!!!) April 12th : Tomorrow, me and Onno are leaving for the next trek: Annapurna circuit! May 1st: We've been back in the civilized world for about 2 days now. The town of Pokhara (next to a lake) is a real treat after 16 days of trekking. The trek was great. Different than the Everest one, but just as good. The company was great, the surroundings were fantastic and I experienced another part of the Nepali culture. Since internet is 4 times as expensive here as in Kathmandu, I will update my journal in about a week. First I will go engage in some more spiritual activities. A few days of full time yoga and meditation somewhere on a hill-top about 30 minutes from here. We'll see how I like that after more than 5 weeks of walking. May 7th: Back in Kathmandu (and plenty of options to update this) I added in the journal of the Annapurna trek. No Maoist problems yet, but I think it would be good to get out of here next week. It feels like something's going to blow soon. More tomorrow on the yoga. Happy reading!!!! May 8th:Did some more updates (phew, lots of work). Now I'm only left with a few more days in Kathmandu. Funny how you get used to things here: Saying Namaste to everyone, eating eggs almost every day, eating much more rice than I ever did (and enjoying it), squatting down on the toilet, barganing (although I'm not really comfortable with it yet), hearing no music (or only Hindi music) for weeks, packing your bag everyday, meeting new people everyday, having an upset stomach most of the times (but just a little bit), a constant feeling in the background that the Maoist situation could get out of hand anyday, walking many kilometres everyday (even in Kathmandu), going from hot to snow and back to hot within the same week etc etc etc etc......... May 9th: Added some pictures (at the end of some of the pages)!!!!! All the (115) pictures turned out really well. I'm not completely satisfied with the way they scanned it.At least you get a taste of the way everything/everybody looked. I'll probably put more pictures on when I get home. Starting this afternoon, I'll spend 3-4 days in the Himalaya Buddhist Meditation Centre getting to know all about Buddhism (or at least an introduction). I'm really looking forward to it. Last time I'll be online will be Monday the 13th. I'll probably do one more update before I return home. bye for now. May 13th: Well, that's it! I decided to get ordained as a buddhist nun so I'm only wearing red and yellow robes from now on and I shaved my head!!! Just kidding, ha ha. I did have a very good time at the Buddhist Course. They've got a very interesting philosophy (which I won't bore you with), I think. Anyway, now it's time for some last minute shopping and then tomorrow the long flight home. It's been a great two months and when the political situation clears up a little, I would recommend everybody to make Nepal the destination for their next trip.. |
