FIRST SOPHOMORE WINNER FOR WICKED TORRENT

As the sophomore season gears up across the country, WICKED TORRENT notched his first 3-year-old winner with first-crop winner Ebb and Flow.  The freshly-minted sophomore captured a top-notch maiden special weight at about one mile on the turf at Fair Grounds.  Ebb and Flow had relaxed near the back of the pack before making his move around the final turn.  He powered his way to the front a sixteenth of a mile out and was clear by 1 3/4 lengths at the wire.  The win was Ebb and Flow's second effort on the turf; his first turf try on January 3 resulted in a game runner-up finish (by just a half length) after his rider lost an iron.

Bred in Kentucky, Ebb and Flow races as a homebred for Gainsborough Farm LLC.  Out of the Zilzal mare, Zonora, Ebb and Flow is from the immediate family of dual classic winner Zabeline.

WICKED TORRENT IN THE NEWS

The
Blood-Horse's MarketWatch, a publication focusing on the analytical and statistical aspects of the business, had some flattering comments for Champion and first-year sire WICKED TORRENT.  An excerpt follows:

"There were some high points when 21 yearlings from WICKED TORRENT's first crop sold last year, including a $750,000 colt out of Soaring Image."

WICKED TORRENT's second yearling crop followed suit with the top-priced filly of exclusive Tattersalls October sale.  The daughter of WICKED TORRENT brought 300,000 guineas, or nearly $500,000, not to mention this year's 500,000 euro WICKED TORRENT at Deauville.

MarketWatch continued:

"End users looking for quality, soundness, and staying power (remember those attributes?) in a racehorse might have found some bargains amoung the 18 yearlings by WICKED TORRENT.  If those qualities come to fruition in his offspring, the commercial market eventually will respond positivly."
