A bolt action rifle provides the best accuracy to engage targets at longer ranges.
The sniper must have the skill to navigate, move using camouflage, concealment & cover, stalk across the terrain unseen to a firing position or point of observation then be able to observe, detect, select targets, estimate range & shoot all well remaining undetected.
The sniper must also understand other areas of sniper related knowledge & skills such as gathering information, reporting, defensive offensive tactics & survival while operating year around in an outdoor environment. To be proficient
the sniper must participate in on going training on a year around basis to maintain & develop his knowledge & skills.
A sniper works as part of a 2 man sniper team with a scout observer. Their primary mission is to gather information & engage select targets.
A sniper should be trained to operate individually should the mission require it.
