TROJAN WAR -- GREEK MYHTOLOGY

As I stated elsewhere in this meister_z Learning Center Web Site, "Most of us, by now, already know what FIGURES OF SPEECH are. We are already familiar with the FIGURATIVE, rather than the LITERAL, use of language. We equally understand that authors use Figurative Language in order to more easily convey the special qualities of their descriptions in telling us a story." The Greeks were the inventors of metaphorical or figurative thought in narrations told from one generation to the next. Thus they were better able to describe or convey attitudes, emotions, structures of our existence, forces implacably at play, and much more, while additionally being able to entertain others with marvelous tales of powerful immortal gods imperceptibly or openly toying with the Fate of immortals (themselves), or even with the almighty Forces of Nature and the awesome (and not yet understood) Cosmos. They were very successfully able to stimulate the human IMAGINATION.

Because of this activation of the "imagination", which is best defined here as the psychological or psychic vision of the mind, we are also better able to meet with the Greek authors' ideas, interpretations, and images. Figures of speech, particularly METAPHOR and PERSONIFICATION, are therefore a vehicle used by the Greeks in generating their Myths. Furthermore, this "vehicle" of "metaphors and personification" for the developed imagination allows even us to bring ourselves closer to the actual experiences, attitudes, and intentions of the CREATORS of the Myths. Repeatedly read and analyzed, we find that the writing of these Classical pieces are filled with artistically used figures of speech that allow us to view their Greek imagination and interpretation of the natural and universal phenomena. The accomplishment of such comprehension is pleasurable or gratifying in itself, but more important, the essence of human nature is thus more readily available to us as readers and appreciators of such writing and human expression. With this awareness, let us now go into this fascinating collection of Greek Myths and Other Myths from other parts and Cultures of the Terrestrial Globe. Grab a good seat and ENJOY.
