The Butterfly

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for
several hours as it struggled to force
its body through that little hole.

Then it seemed to stop making any progress.
It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could,
and it could go no further.

So the man decided to help the butterfly.
Ho took a pair of scissors and snipped off
the remaining bit of the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily.
But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch the butterfly
because he expected that, at any moment,
the wings would enlarge
and expand to be able to support the body,
which would contrat in time.

Neither happened!!
In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around with a swollen body
and shriveled wings.  It never was able to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste,
did not understand was that the resticting cocoon
and the struggle required for the butterfly
to get through the ting opening were God's way
of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly
into its wings so that it would be ready for flight
once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives.
If God allowed us to go through our lives
without any obstacles, it would cripple us.
We would not be as strong as what we could have been.
We Could Never Fly!!!

A Life

Slowly the morning wakes her
her dreams, they fade away
she opens her eyes and yawns
and prepares to face the day

she lays there and wonders
can she make it through the day
much has changed in her life
thoughts wander back to that day

the night of the accident
a drunk it her head on
she survived with a head injury
now her old life is long gone

her days of constant headaches
a life full of change and pain
she prays to God to take her
she doesn't know why she must remain

she look to the man beside her
so caring and loving and sweet
she couldn't make it without him
how fortunate they did meet

she kisses him and gets out of bed
her youngest daughter sees her come through
she races into her mother's arms
hugs her and say "Mom, I love you!"

her mother stops by for a little chat
they talk over a pot of tea
they smile and laugh over the memories
just as close as any two could be

her older daughter comes rushing in
and screams "Mom I need your ears"
so much has happened to me
she listens, then dries her tears

a friend calls her on the telephone
they laugh and joke for some time
she is thanks for always being there
a truer friend I could never find

the day ends and she goes to bed
and she talks to God again tonight
"I see life has so much meaning
yes I now see that you were right"
