The Giants and the Dwarfs

The Giants lived in a large land
They had plenty of food
They were never short of anything
But they always complained and were unsatisfied

The Dwarfs lived in a humble property
The land produced just enough food for them
The life was not always easy
But they enjoyed life

One day the Giants found out about the Dwarfs
In a land not too far away there lives small people
Without means of self-defence
Without an outstanding system of government
They are small, weak and behind!

All right, everybody
The leader of the Giants said
Why not go and get their land
The land is not too prosperous
But still worth getting something out of it
It’ll be dead easy
For they are totally defenceless

So the Giants rushed to the land of the Dwarfs
They declared that from that moment
The Dwarf’s land was going to be owned by the Giants
And that the Dwarfs have to work hard for the Giants

To scare them and to show off their power
The Giants slashed some Dwarfs with swords
When Dwarf women screamed with fear
The Giants slashed them too

The Dwarfs were in an absolute confusion
They did not understand what was going on

Why are you doing this? This is our land for thousands of years
One of the Dwarfs cried out
Because you are so slow and ugly and behind
The Giants answered
We are trying to help you
To be more advanced
We are stronger than you
Show us respect

From then on the Giants implanted in the Dwarfs’ mind
That they are inferior
The Giants got the Dwarfs to work through day and night
When the Dwarfs complained the Giants whipped them with a rod

Once they tried to rebel against the Giants
But alas for the Giants it was like crushing a flea
Many Dwarfs were killed
Much blood was shed
Just because they did not know any way of hurting people
Just because they did not know how to fight

We don’t dare to ask you to give us our land back
Take it if you want
A Dwarf said as he died
We ask you back our happiness
Our lives as a human

The Dwarf lost his words and stopped breathing
Sheer silence fell among the Dwarfs
Why you are standing there for,
The Giants said
Get back to your work

This is all I have to tell you
It’s an old story and
I do not know what happened to the Giants and the Dwarfs afterwards
But according to what I hear
There are thousands of their descendants
Still existing in the world

They do not realise who they are
You, yes, YOU, may even be one of them.
