HEREDITARY DISEASES
Here at Melarbro we test animals every twelve months or before
breeding, whatever comes first.
Babies are tested at six weeks for Heart and B.A.E.R.
Hearts are auscultated and if any abnormalities are found they are then checked by
ultrasound.
Hereditary Nephritis, all animals are tested yearly. And I am of the opinion that Heart
and Nephritis should continue during their breeding life.
Luxating Patella is done before breeding.
Polycystic Kidney Disease. All my animals have been tested for three years for PKD and
are all clear. Their progeny are tested once before breeding. All stud dogs that I use
will be tested also. PKD is Autosomal Dominant Gene, which means either both or one parent
has to be affected to pass this on. If one parent is affected then 50% will also be
affected and if both parents it will be 75% to 100% affected.
Should you have any questions about Hereditary Diseases I will be more than happy to
help
