December 31st Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. We played at the Map Room tonight opening for the Joe Clark Trio. We were joined by our good friend Jack Cook of Black Creek Studio who did a marvelous job on mandolin and keyboard (especially since we didn't get to practice together that much.) Lynne and I have decided to slow down a little this year. We have performed over sixty shows in 2005 and we 'd like to play smaller, more intimate settings. Also we'd like to work on promoting the group as a tasteful, acoustic act. This should give us more time to practice, more time to learn new songs, and possibly get into the recording studio again and work on a CD that we can promote during performances. Wish us luck. January 11th Played at the Map Room again for the 2nd birthday celebration of the Bridge Radio 105.5. Jack joined for this one too. We opened for Isness, a local group who rocked the house. Had a ball. Hope to see everyone there next time. January 29th Wow. Can you believe it? We had decided to take it easier this year and we already have bookings into May. So much for resting. We're re-doing our promotional pictures and Morgen of "The Bridge" radio has asked to jam with us at the Map Room February 8th. Should be a blast. February 8th Played at the Map Room tonight using a drum machine for the first time. What a difference. We new we were bad to speed up, but didn't realize how bad we were until the mechanical drummer wouldn't let us. Also Morgen sang a couple of songs with us. Had a lot of fun. By now most everyone knows that the Bridge radio station 105.5 was struck by lightning Saturday morning. They just got back on the air today. Just in time for their remote at the Map Room. I hope we got a good review. February 14th Just got in from playing a Valentine's dinner at Time Well Spent Tea Room. Fantastic prime rib. Anyway, Lynne, Mike and I have been discussing what we could do to draw more people to our shows. Our music isn't bad, but apparently is not enough. Mike suggested (and I tend to agree) that we need something more visual on stage. We have decided to look for a third person (preferably female) to give us more of a stage presence. I took out an ad in the Charleston City Paper this week that will run for a month. Let's see what developes from that. February 22nd Just got done playing the Map Room and came home with something special. We recorded the show LIVE. Hopefully we can get enough good tracks to make a reasonably good live album. We'll listen to it tomorrow to see what we can use. If not enough we'll be playing there again on March the 8th. And we'll record again. Got to get it right sometime. February 24th Just played the Elks Lodge in Summerville. Man, that was fun! If I had known it was there, I would have tried to play there a long time ago. Nice room, nice people. made a lot of new friends, and they want us to come back at least once a month. It was great. March 8th Recorded another show live. Got some pretty good tracks out of the first time, but I think we can do better. We'll keep plugging. Had as our musical guests tonight Paul & Linda Kledowski (forgive me if I spelled it wrong) and Linda's sister Annette. BEAUTIFUL HARMONIES. Also, met the first lady to answer our ad for a third. She seems very nice and very knowledgeable. We'll hold our first practice next Wednesday, but I've got a good feeling. March 16th Had our first practice last night with Joni. The girl can play a mean bass guitar and sings really well! This is going to be fun. She even passed the test of laughing at all my jokes. How perfect is that? Had another call on our ad from a lady who plays saxophone, flute and guitar. Had to turn her down, though I told her we would keep her in mind. Might want to expand to a quartet later on. Who knows? Joni might have a little trouble performing with us during the festival as her business is setting up a booth of their own there. Hopefully, people will be too busy listening to the music to want to get their spines popped. (Did I mention she's a chiropractor?) Oh well, Lynne and I have been a duo this long, one or two more performances won't kill us. |
