Pictures of the Past
from slides I found in one of my picture boxes, all taken by my Mom with her Kodak camera, spanning from 1961 to around 1966

Summer 1962, right before we moved to San Francisco from Chicago, at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, IL.  That's me on the right next to my brother Michael, along with Ricky Maroney who lived down the street from us on Church St. in South Chicago, and his sister (can't remember her name)
Here I am (on the left) probably in 1961 at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, with two older kids -- I cannot remember who they are, perhaps cousins.  I'll have to get back to you on that.
Me at around age 3 or 4 (1960 I think) contemplating the mysteries of life (Chicago, IL)
My Mom always loved elephants!  I think this was taken at Brookfield Zoo in Chicago (but don't know for sure)
My brother Michael on his little blue tricycle, around age 3 in Chicago -- I had a larger red tricycle that I always called my "car" and I still remember riding up and down the street with my brother on Church St. in Chicago and I still remember his little blue tricycle as well.
1962 -- Mary, Michael and Jennifer
Me with my brother  and sister at the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco, not long after we moved to San Francisco in summer of 1962 (I was five, Michael three and Jennifer two)
This is the uncropped picture of us at the Conservatory of Flowers, displaying the beautiful flowers my Mom always loved.  I remember going there often as a kid
1962 -- Here we are another time at the Conservatory of Flowers, with my Dad pointing to the camera and holding on to my little sister Jennifer.  Again, with a beautiful display of flowers.  I always brought a doll along with me.  (Micahel, Jennifer and Mary)
1962 -- at the beach, which my mom and dad were fascinated with having always lived in the midwest until Summer 1962.  That's my Dad holding my sister Jennifer, along with me and Michael.  I'm holding my favorite Raggedy Ann doll that I carried with me from the time I was a baby until who knows when.  The cropped version (above) above and the full version to the right.  This picture was one of the few in the group of slides I found that was a little washed out.
Me and Michael at the beach (same day) -- this is just the beginning of our love for the ocean and climbing rocks...
Me and my brother Michael, climbing on rocks at the beach, already getting started (probably 1962)
The Buddha at the Japanese Tea Garden, another place we went to often, in Golden Gate Park (taken by my Mom of course)  I'm amazed at how clear this photo still looks after 45 years, probably because Mom had these made into slides.
I'm pretty sure this is Muir Woods.  I have no idea who the lady is or whether she's someone we knew or if my Mom was just taking a picture of the beautiful redwoods...
Here we are at Children's Playground in Golden Gate Park, where we spent a lot of time because it was walking distance from Second Avenue, where we lived.  I think that's Michael and Jennifer going down the slides (picture is blurry) and that's Michael, me and Jennifer on the cable car that used to sit in Children's Playground (we also rode real cable cars, of course)
1964 -- Me, Jennifer and Michael -- here we are on Second Avenue in San Francisco where we grew up on Halloween I'm a Greek Goddess.  My Mom made the dress and bobby pinned plastic grapes on my head 'cause she said that's what Greek goddesses wear.  (I got teased at school for that!)  Jennifer is a little angel wearing a pink nightgown and Michael is an Indian (how fitting for him).  I believe we were around 8, 7 and 5 here -- Jennifer was in Kindergarden, I think.  (Check out the old cars parked on the street!)  And, no trees yet on Second Avenue.  Those didn't get planted 'til four or five years later, and now huge trees adorn Second Avenue.
On our front porch -- See, I really did wear grapes on my head.  Michael looks like a true Indian and Jennifer looks so "angelic!"
Halloween 1964 (I think?)  at the Halloweeen parade at Laguna Honda School in SF (where we all went to elementary school).  My second grade teacher, Mrs. Applan, in the blue on the right (holding the leather purse).  I think (pretty sure) that the two little girls at the front of the line are Victri and Tori, two of my mom's long-time friend Vicki Norton (Hutchins at the time) kids.  Mom met Vicki at the Laguna Honda PTA in either 1962 or 1963 and they were life-long friends.  Vicki and her five kids lived right up the street from the school at this time in a huge, rambling three-story house., which we all visited often.
My sister Jennifer in the Laguna Honda School Halloween parade (also 1965)
1966 -- Barry Hirrell, David's little brother, who lived around the corner from us on Lincoln Way for many years.  the five of us hung out and played together all the time.
Christmas pictures (around 1965-1966)
I love this picture of Jennifer (above) playing her little guitar and singing, so cute! Behind the chair, in the back to the right a little is an area I always called my "office" while growing up.
Michael -- with two of the three stockings my Mother made for us when we were babies.  She hung those stockings up every year, even after we grew up...they were in the ill-fated box that went off the cliff...
Me showing off my cool, new dollhouse, which I loved and played with for years.  I think I was around eight here (1965)
I can't believe we wore those night gowns with night caps even!  Reminds me of Little House on the Prarie!  Michael's jammies are cool though!
Me in front of our lovely tree with all the "heirloom ornaments," also in the ill-fated box...I'm holding these weird, little stuffed animals...
Jennifer's Kindergarten class at Laguna Honda School.  Jennifer is the kid on the right raising her hand, wearing a smock so that she can paint....
