Yes, when you are 51, and not in that bad shape either, shooting for three straight weekends in the cool mountains of Ocoa, is, OK. At least for the very first 5 rolls of film. Then you start to feel, things… And if you mention that you are, or were, an avid mountain biker. That, you bring your own bike, and, it happens to be that a former Pro from Austria is currently living in some little place call "La Bocaina" (somewhere up hill the forest). AND, he has a wonderful set of BIXERS bikes, each costing over 2,000 Dollars…well, you, are, doomed. Me and my big…20-year old F20 Nikon. And, my Made-in-Taiwan Concorde "down hill" bike. For very down, hills, if you know what I mean... Folks: the whole idea is to bring you to Ocoa. OK? First, you will take a charter; let’s say from Bad Neuenahr-Ahreiler, that cute little town Eastbound Germany of course. Get into a flying tube for 8 hours. Land in Bavaro (Yah! You did heared it before, didn’t you?) and lay down for 2 weeks under the Caribbean sun. |
But wait. That’s a LOT of sun and sand. You could get bored even in paradise. To much, paradise, you know. So, it’s time for looking what do we have the other side. Well, besides tropical bushes…more tropical bushes. But don’t get me wrong, I am just trying to present you an alternative. What if you could combine 50% of your time at the beach with the other half in the mountains? IN this new Ecoadventure destination, located only 90 Kilometers West Santo Domingo (well, 300 Kilometers West Bavaro…) trekking paths are waiting for you. Ocoa is perfect for biking, horseback riding, 4WD or kayaking. Nothing eXtreme…if you want, but XXtreme if you ask for it! --"Yah, a 2,000-meter down hill, no problem !"— At least that’s what my friend Tibor from Hungary was telling me meanwhile we were pedaling along. Me? I was just trying to think in breathing. One gasp after another. But it was nice: real mountain biking, good friends, the scenery, everything cool (even in summer) and easy for the wallet too... I'll be back... |
OCOA: First, from my side of the camera. Then, in front. |
